I have been riding horses all through my pregnancy and it has not had a negative impact on either of us. I know that it does count as a kind of exercise. I have restricted myself to just my laid back loving mare who would never do anything dramatic and she does not spook easily. Now that I am entering my third trimester I am thinking of quiting all together so that I can 'take it easy' until the baby comes. I am going to ask my ob at my next appointment but I would also like some imput incase I get the 'okay' to keep riding.
Re: To ride or not to ride? is it still a silly question?
I envy you being able to continue riding throughout your pregnancy. My OB okayed me riding as long as I rode a quiet, older and reliable horse. I own three horses...two are hot, young and unpredictable and the third hasn't been started yet.
I miss it big time!
There is nothing wrong with riding as long as you are still comfortable doing it. My mother rode when she was pregnant with my sister up until 2 days before her due date. My old coach rode until the night before she gave birth. I know a lot of women who have ridden until they were either too big and uncomfortable or they went into labor. It's all about how you feel and how well behaved your horse is.
