Neither.
I can picture it as a nn or term of endearment for a son or daughter of sea loving parents. But not as a real name.
Sailor is a girl's name. It's different and nms.
Though Sailor Moon is my favorite show ever ....I wouldn't name my daughter that. Cute pet name though

WEIRD! i thought i was the only one who liked this name! i would have to grow a really big set to actually use this name, but i really like it!
funny enough, i hadn't decided if it was a boy or girl name either... although Christie Brinkley named her daughter Sailor Leigh...
I agree with this, especially the NMS part.
Wrong, I know, but I have a hard time taking someone seriously when they have a silly, childish sounding name. Sailor falls into that category.
i've only heard it on girls and i would definitely be afraid to use it on a boy as it's more common for girls.
here are the 2009 stats for girls, boys:
sailor- 83, 12
saylor- 191, 9
