Success after IF

My Gymboree (Play&Music) went bankrupt!

Totally out of the blue! We went Friday to go to the Halloween party, which was still being promoted when I was there Wednesday, and discovered the doors were locked and there was a legal notice on the door. It is Chapter 7 and apparently they owe a lot of money (more than $1 million) so it doesn't appear they will reopen. This is the case for all the Gymborees (not the stores) in our area. As much as I've complained about the hokiness of the classes, I am disappointed. It was something we could do together and it occupied two hours of afternoon time each week, which is important since I like to stay busy. We're also out some money for the classes we prepaid for, but not as much as the people who just signed up or re-upped for more sessions. I feel badly for the women who taught our classes. They were really sweet and I don't think they had any idea this was coming. I hate that they are out of a job.

  • Oh no! That's crappy. Those classes kinda grow on you, don't they? lol

How about local libraries? Do they offer any fun mommy and me's?

  • Yeah, I've found some library activities that we will check out this week. I think they are just storytimes, though. We'll see how that goes - hopefully better than when DH and I read to her before bed. At least with this she probably won't be able to eat the book like she does at home! I was looking at Little Gym but she won't be old enough for the classes for another five months.
  • A mommy friend swears by meetup.com for mom's groups. Never tried it myself though.
