anybody NOT interview a pediatrician?

I got a pediatrician recommendation from my sil. It's a practice with 2 doctors and very close to our house. They have a sick and well entrance, answer calls promptly and will meet you at the office or even the hospital during off-hours.  She really loves them both. The only thing that I'm not crazy about is that they won't go to the hospital I will be delivering at.

Re: anybody NOT interview a pediatrician?

  • i asked my family doctor if she sees babies and she said yes, didn't really interview her but keeping her as my pediatrician and I've seen my doctor for a long time

  • I didn't actually interview my future pediatrician.  I looked at two practices - the one my sisters go to and the one my friends go to.  I decided on the one my friends go to based on proximity, availability, and waiting time.  I know that if any of those moms trust their kids with these doctors than I can too!  GL!

  • I'm just going off of a recommendation from a couple of friends and my OB.  I won't meet the guy until he comes to the hospital when I'm delivering.  Everyone who uses him loves him and he speaks English.  That's good enough for me right now.

  • second part to your post.. sorry

My hospital actually doesn't allow outside pediatricians to come in and asses the babies and we have one assigned just for the time being when I deliver and I probably won't even meet them. So I wouldn't worry and go with the recommendations. If you don't like them, then you can switch them.

  • We didn't because there is only one in town and she is really great with DS so it was a no brainer.  She also doesn't go to the hospital I'm delivering at, but I didn't find that to be much of an issue with DS's delivery.  He just saw the on call pedi and then our pedi at 2 days.

  • I just called and they said to make an appt for a few days after baby is born. Sounds easy enough. I think I am going to just cross that off the list. I do trust my sil, esp. since she is a nurse.

  • I'm not going to interview any, I'm just going off of previous experiences that either I've had with them with work or with my nieces/nephews. There are 5 pediatricians in my town - 2 of which I absolutely WILL NOT go to because they're both idiots (husband and wife, go figure), not sure who 1 of them is, and then have had good experiences or heard good things about the other 2 so that is who I'll be going with.

  • I'm going with who my OB recommended. I've been with him for some time and trust his judgement. I won't get to actually meet him till LO is born.

  • We never did with DS. We had a recommendation from a friend and decided to go with that. Then, after he was born, we really liked the Pedi that was doing rounds in the hospital so we decided to go to her. We love her!

  • We didn't with our first - just asked our OB for some recommendations.  She recommended a great group of doctors in the same building as her.  I guess we just got lucky.
  • We are pretty sure about the doctor we will used based on a good friend's recommendation, the fact that my doctor says he is a great pediatrician and that he does rounds at the hospital we will deliver at. But his office offers new patient/interview appointments once a week, so we'll probably take advantage of that.

  • My OB just had a baby and gave me a list of her top 5 peds. I looked at their websites and picked one. No interviews for me.
  • I didn't. I'm going with my sister's recommendation.  I figure he is is good enough for my two precious nephews he is good enough for LO.

  • i didn't. my obgyn gave us a list of like 10. i checked to see who was on our insurance, 3. out of those 3, one practice was right next door to the hospital (where our doctors office is and we'll deliver)and was accepting new patients, and they just said to list them as the pediatrician and whoever is on call will come check out the baby when its born, then we make an appointment for a week or two after that.  we went online and checked out the doctors office, theres 3 of them and they're part of the texas childrens pediatrics group so looks like a win all around.

  • With the health care system in Canada, we would be wasting the dr's time to sit with them and interview them.  I have had many reccomendations for the pediatrician I have choosen,  plus its nearly impossible to get a dr here and once you get one you stick with them... unfortunately we can't be picky.  I have not yet met my pediatrician, but my family dr, my ob, and several friends and family members have reccomended him, so i'm not concerned.

  • We've bounced between family care and pediatrician.  Then we heard that the ped on-call would be at our birth, and that would be that, and we could ask if he/she was accepting more patients then.

Which is, of course, the opposite of what we've prepared for.  We even printed out an interview list.  Not sure which way we'll go at the end.
