F/U to potty training...

So, how do you know when your child is ready to potty train?

I had no plans of trying anytime soon (DS is 27 months), but DS is presently fascinated with the topic and loves to tell me right away that he "went poopie" or "no, just peed."  It is always after the fact.

I've been told that his fascination may be his "window" to start trying, but I'm just not so sure.

Re: F/U to potty training...

  • Maggie could tell me if she had gone for a long time before any potty training actually stuck.  She sat on the potty a lot for a while just because she wanted to but never actually peed.  When she was 2y 9mo we went for it wholeheartedly for a weekend and she was trained very quickly.  Every kid is different though and my pedi said it doesn't hurt to try and see if they are ready, then just wait a few months and try again.

I agree with this.  My kids signs were an obsession with the potty, going somewhere private to poop, bringing me a new diaper after they had gone, and Kenzie started resisting us putting a diaper on her.
