I need tips on where to find a reasonably priced dresser and glider to coordinate with our crib. We bought the Lauren crib by Graco in espresso at Target. We got a great deal on the crib (only $115). Now we just need the other parts
I've searched craig's list, and it's mostly junk or doesn't match.
Thanks in advance!
Re: Tips for good deals on a dresser & glider
Saw a really really nice glider at BJs yesterday for $150. It was microfiber and a great size. Still not super cheap, but gliders are expensive. I would keep searching Craigslist, there has to be some good, gently used ones out there if you want a true steal. I got lucky... one of my best friends is giving me her glider.
A dresser - I would check simplybabyfurniture.com and Costco has a very nice dresser, forget the price but it was a very good one. I actually bought my whole set from Costco (im a warehouse store junkie)
Target or Walmart seem to have the best prices on gliders. I got a very cozy Graco Glider (gift from stepmom) from Walmart, and it was only $159 or so.
The dresser we actually got antique for free in San Francisco, but you can find any dresser on Craigslist that has a decent style, and just sand, prime, and re-paint it. (Or if you are pressed for time, you can just prime and paint it.) It's a great way to save money! I'm also doing this with a changing table....which can be found on CL for $40!
Baby furniture is SO overpriced, especially because it's all miniature, and so it won't last long.
Good luck!
I've heard that the Baby Depot at Burlington Coat Factory has had a great deal on a glider and ottoman combo. Not sure if you have one close by.
JCPenney is my go to store for great deals. Sign up for their emails and you will get offers for extra % off and free shipping to the store all the time. Just keep an eye out and then order when you can use the coupons on furniture. I have bought both cribs and our changing table from them. Shipping to your house is a little more expensive so if you have a way to pick it up at the store you can almost always get free shipping.
I got a great deal on the glider/ottoman combo that someone mentioned above from Burlington Coat Factory's Baby Depot. The glider is basically a smaller version of the Pottery Barn Kids dream chair, only in a tan microfiber. For the two together as a set, we spent $195!!
Hopefully they have one near you. They also had a ton of regular rocking chair gliders, as well as other furniture. Had no idea Burlington sold anything other than coats! Hahaha
We bought an inexpensive dresser at Ikea (I think $169 or so). It doesn't match the stain of our crib (antique white) so I am going to paint it pink or tan to match the bedding.
I got a glider and ottoman at BRU. It was $399 but I used a 20% off coupon. Most of the cheaper ones were not comfy and just didn't rock as smoothly.
I just wanted to say thanks for these great responses! My husband and I are trying to figure out a way to create a safe and nice-looking nursery on a budget, and we've decided that while we're willing to spend a little more on a crib to get what we want, we need to pinch a little on the case pieces. I've been searching all over town at consignment stores with little luck and it totally didn't even occur to me to check at Ikea!
I really like the Hemnes 3 drawer (and 8 drawer) dresser, and I think it'll look fine with the crib we're leaning towards!
Thanks for the great idea!
