Engorged someone shoot me and put me out of my misery....

Not to scare any first timers that haven't popped yet, but I'm day 4 postpartum and my boobs are like bowling balls on my chest. The same thing happened with my DS so I should've expected it, but it is AWFUL! Any repeat mommies have any suggestions? Everything just says feed as often as possible at least every 2-3 hours. Between my section pain, postpartum cramping (especially when I BF) and the watermelons I'm now carrying on my chest I'm on highway coo coo headed for a breakdown.

  • the LC told me to buy soothies but i never did.  i was told to pump just a couple of minutes to relieve the pain.  be careful with the pumping though because it can make it worse.

Currently going through our second deployment. Can't wait for Zoe to meet her daddy!

  • Try just hand expressing a bit!

  • I know exactly how you feel. Mine were so big and engorged I had ripples down the sides. OMG it was seriously worse than labor the first night my milk came in. I was just sitting on my floor crying in agony.
  • Pump or hand express just enough to give yourself some relief.  Be careful though-my SIL ended up pumping overnight even after her LO slept through the night becasue she had always pumped so much that her boobs took a long time adjusting to her lo not needing to nurse overnight.

Sorry you are so miserable!  I hope today is better.
