I had my 39 week appointment yesterday. My doctor walks in and proceeds to measure my belly. Instead of just measuring my belly, she feels around it, and says "Wow, big baby! How much did you guys weigh at birth?" My DH didn't know, but I was 9 lbs. Doc proceeds to say "I think you have at least that if not more in there." ... but wait it gets better! I get my internal done (which, I was only a fingertip dilated), and my doc looks up and says "Wow! Nice sized head, too!"
. Man that's exactly what I wanted to hear a week before my due date. My vag hurts just thinking about it! That's ok, she is still moving around and her heart is beating which is most important.
Now I have to schedule a growth ultrasound so we can get a better sense of what we are dealing with here. I think depending on what the ultrasound says, they may go straight to c-section, which I am ok with, if they think it is best.
Re: Thanks, Doc, that is exactly what I wanted to hear ;)
Try not to worry. With all my kids the weight the dr thought they would be was way bigger than they came out. I don't think they are that good at guessing. With Sean they said he was well over 9 pounds and he was only 7. Like the previous poster said your body made this baby your body can birth her.

I agree--try not to worry--your body should be able to handle it (thinking of teeny tiny Vic Secret model Miranda Kerr who just birthed her son naturally and he was just a few ounces under 10 lbs).
Your OB could be wrong too! But totally understand the fear/anxiety/frustration.
Exactly. Cephalopelvic disproportion (CPD- when the baby actually won't fit) is really not common at all. The pelvis is not a set size and neither is anything else in the nether regions, it all opens during birth! Don't let him scare you!!
For inspiration, DH's dad was a 13lb baby. His mother is/was petite, about 5'4, 115lbs, and gave birth to him naturally. Our bodies can do a lot
