Parenting after a Loss

If you have a Britax convertible...

... for rear-facing installation, did you install the versa-tether in the Swedish or Australian method?  The Australian method seems so unwieldy and in the way!  I think I can find an anchor point on the floor (2007 Jeep Liberty).  Is there any data on which tethering method is safer?

  • We used the seat anchors, but my parents used both the seat and floor anchors.  I can't remember which one is the floor one, but I remember one of them looking weird.  Sorry I'm not more help.

Floor is Swedish.  Seat anchors (like on the back of the seat) are Australian.  But with the Australian, it goes from the back of the seat, over top of the baby, and behind the seat.  It just looks weird, and like it would be a pain in the butt to load/unload baby with that in the way.

  • Ok, for sure we just did the seat anchors and parents did both that and Swedish.

  • We tried it with the seat anchors at first but it was absolutely impossible to get DS in and out.  We do not have an official floor anchor point in our Honda Fit, but we were able to anchor it successfully to the "foot" of the passenger seat.
  • we anchored it to the "foot" of the passenger seat of our Honda Accord.  Plus we had to put a few swim noodles under the seat to get it the right angle

  • You don't have to use the tether for RF installation. We have no good location on the floor for anchoring and doing over the seatback is not practical. It's not necessary to use a tether, and many inspection stations will tell you not to.

  • We read conflicting things about the importance of rear-facing tether systems. At the end of the day, we decided we'd prefer to tether and the only tether point in either of our cars was behind the rear seat so we did the australian style tether. And yes, it sucked majorly putting him in and out of the seat. He was like a high jumper going over those straps or we smooshed him under, depending on our mood. He never minded it but we hated it. At around 1, I thought about taking the tether down but we kept it up. We switched to forward facing last week and it is so wonderful not fighting those straps and being able to see our baby.

So if you australian tether, just hang in there and eventually you'll switch the seat and get such an easier carseat experience.
