Feeling out of breath - normal?

The last day or two there have been moments when I feel like I am struggling to catch my breath.  Not when I am exercising or doing anything strenuous but it has happened just when I am laying in bed or sitting at my desk.  I assume this is normal?

Re: Feeling out of breath - normal?

  • It was normal for me. I felt like I could never catch my breath because Baby B (Tage) was always up in my ribs.

  • Yup same as above. My baby B was pried out from under my rib cage! I would still call your OB though as many things can cause you to feel out of breath ranging from no big deal to serious. Make sure you are never laying on your back anymore, it compressed major arteries leading to your heart and lungs. I hated that part of getting ultrasounds I was out of breath until we were done.
  • It was normal for me to be winded.  Heck, just trying to go up the stairs... you would have thought I just ran a marathon.  My baby B (Kate)...she's the tiny one in the pic... that girl was strong!!  she decided to wedge into my diaphragm and/ribs and stay there a while.  I kept trying to press her little butt down...just so I could get a breath now and then.

I later found out that I was anemic too.  (Low blood count) and that made me tired too.

  • I've had difficulty breathing/catching my breath since week 18.... and it's still happening!  My OB said it's normal, unfortunately.  I hate the feeling though!

  • Totally normal.  It was the worst for me when I went back to work after Summer Break (I'm a teacher) at about 13w.  It got progressively better from there, but I was lucky and never really had the babies pushing on my lungs.

  • It was totally normal for me.  It started around 20 weeks or so.  I agree with PP make sure you are not sleeping or laying on your back it makes it worse. I actually almost passed out once at an U/S because I was on my back to long.

  • I get winded going up and down stairs, but I've noticed the last few weeks if I'm talking I have to stop and catch my breath. A friend of mine is pregnant, too and you should see us carrying on a conversation!

  • Normal, everything in there is smooshed!  I get out of breath just rolling over in bed!  All part of pregnancy ;)
