TTC After a Loss

So far I have a 2 hour delay tomorrow!!

We are supposed to get snow/freezing rain/ice overnight.  For teachers/counselors it means we actually only get a 1 hour delay.  But, I am happy to at least get one extra hour of sleep!!  Big Smile

I am thinking there may be a good chance that school will be canceled.  The only sad thing about that is that we will lose President's Day if we have a snow day before then.  Oh well - guess we'll see.

  • You lucky girl!!! My school never delays, regardless of weater we are either in or off there is no in between.  It stinks because I have had to go in several times only to have to drive back home through the crappy weather again an hour later.

  • I've never even heard of "delays".  In my school board, it's either all or nothing.  However, most of the time, the school buses are cancelled, but the schools remain open, which means I have to risk my own life to get to work.  If the roads aren't safe for buses, why would it be safe for me to drive to work??  I know it's a political thing ... parents complain too much when the schools close because they can't get babysitting/daycare for their kids.  But really, shouldn't safety come first? *sigh*

That's crazy!!  Do you mean you don't have a delay at all or the kids do, but the teachers don't?

Before, we were supposed to come in as soon as we were able, then they got all strict about it and said we had to be on time.  There were a few days when lots of people got there and then they ended up canceling - the union made it an issue, becasue then the district owed people time.  So now we get an hour, with the assumption that if they are closing, they will do so by then.

Our local (main) school district  is the opposite. No matter how bad the weather gets, if they're there, they stay.

Oh wow!  Where do you live?  In PA  2 hour delays are common.  They delay with the hopes that the roads will be better or the weather conditions will improve.  They also do this if the temp is around zero and wind chills are below.  There is no canceling of buses in PA - I've never heard of that.  If the buses can't run - there is no school.

I can't believe they think it's safe for the parents to all be out on the road driving to school.  I mean so many cars all trying to get there at once.  Seems crazy.  If the weather is really bad here colleges even delay or close.

  • Yay for a delay!  The schools here do 2 hr delays quite a bit.  I have to go to work tomorrow but DH is taking a co worker and I in because we are getting the ice/snow too. It is so windy/snowy now and I have no problem driving myself in but he insisted on bringing us.  I really think he just wants to look for people stuck in ditches he can pull out, he loves getting people unstuck in the snow.

Teachers have to report no matter what, the kids could have anywhere from a 1 to 2 hour delay, but we have to be there.  Our union is trying to step in but we are not getting very far.  It stinks because I have had to make the drive in some very nasty weather.  Ohio decided it would be a good idea to reduce the number of calamity days from 5 to 3 so districts are not as opt to cancel.  Great call right??

I live just outside of Toronto, Ontario in Canada.  We should be used to snow, right?  But really, we're not.   Many states in the US have gotten more snow than us.  If this storm hits, this will be our first big storm of the season.
