Follistim pen users on high doses

We just completed my first stim shot for this cycle.  The dose is 750iu.  I hand the pen over to MH and he dials up the dose.  Now I didn't realize that you can't do the whole dose at one time, although I wasn't surprised.  What comes next, was to my surprise.  After he administered the first dose of 375, he redialed up the pen while the needle was still in me and administered 375 more.  I was like "what the hell are you doing?!?"  MH "well you needed two doses"  me: "yeah, I don't think that's how you're suppose to do it!". 

It was totally tolerable, but a little concerning. Should we have done two seperate injections (with fresh needles of course) or was his method acceptable?

TTC #1 since 9/07
Dx MFI, AMA, Endo, AMH .16
Lap 10/09 Removed endometrioma, stage IV endo and adhesions
Lap 2/10 Endometrioma cysts & adhesions returned.
Ivf #1 4/10 Antagonist, ET Cancelled.
IVF #2 2/11 A/ACP+E2V C/P
IVF #3 6/11 Letrozole/Antagonist BFN
IVF #4 11/11 Low stim Antagonist BFN
Lap 3/12 Lap & Selective HSG
Many cycles of Letrozole and LP HCG w/TI and LDN
IVF #5 8/12 Low stim BFN
IUI #1 10/12 BFN br> S&PAIFW

    I dont think it really matters-as long as you get what you are supposed to. Most of my vials were 900. So you could do one of 750, or I guess 2 of 375 each. However, I have never heard of someone doing a dose that high! Have you used Follistim before and not responded?

    You're supposed to do 2 separate injections.

    ETA, this protocol starts of with very high stims.

    This is a last ditch effort to wake up my old ovaries. LOL

    Edwina, do you think we did any harm?  It bleed a little.  I think that was from him removing his pinch to redial the dose.

    lol that is such a high dose. ny doc once told me there is no benefit in starting of very high. but it matbe a diffrent protocol. i would not worry as long as he got all the meds in.

    I was told to change needles and locations of each dose.  When I run out of a vial I do two shots and change needles.
    TTC#2: septum removed, 2 losses, Stage 2 Endo, thin lining, slight MFI
    iui #5 2/7 + 2/8 = BFP!! 11 dpiui
    Beta #1 2/18 11dpiui= 46, Beta #2 13dpiui 150, Beta #3 16dpiui 584!!

    I'm sure that you are okay for tonight, but I think you are supposed to use a fresh needle. 
    TTC Child #1 Sept '08, Dx: Unexplained, DOR 2 IUI's = BFN, m/c, IVF 1 = 0 embies to put back, IVF 2 = BFN, IVF 3 = cancelled, IVF 4 = BFP with 1 embie. Our son came into our life on 9/28/11. We are in love! Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker

    I think you're totally fine. Don't worry about it.

    I don't know for sure, but I think the point of doing it in separate inj is to avoid any errors due to jostling, or if you hand slips when redialing, etc. In that case, you won't know what you've injected.
