GC

How big is Ian? Do you need preemie clothes? I hope your first day home has been blissful!

Re: GC

  • He's 5 lb 10 oz as of last night. Thank you so much for the offer, but I think he'd be too big by the time they got here. :) His NB clothes are fitting pretty well now that we have him in cloth diapers.

Today has been good. I think he's been saving his screaming for when he got home. I've never felt as accomplished as I did when I got him to sleep a little bit ago. I'm seriously thinking our place is just too quiet for him.

Our NICU nurses told us that they flip a switch when they send babies home.

Parents always said they went from quiet little things to total criers when they left.  It was so true.

  • Jack had that problem too. Do you have a noise machine? We use that at night and just keep the tv on in the background during the day. It seems to help. The first few days home are so hard but it gets better!

  • We have a giraffe that makes different noises, plus we have a humidifier that sounds like a jet engine. The nurses told us to leave a light on when we go to bed and that we'd probably need to keep the TV on all night at first. We'll see.

The nurse who did our CPR class told us that preemies are really noisy so we'll notice if he's not breathing. She wasn't kidding. We couldn't hear most of his noises in the hospital, but now we hear him constantly. He's a very loud breather.

  • Preemies are notoriously noisy sleepers. Jack only slept in our room one night before we had to move him to his crib. He was on an apnea monitor and only about 15 feet away so we could still hear him but I think we only slept about 45 minutes that first night. I hope Ian settles in and lets you guys get some rest tonight.
