Babies: 9 - 12 Months

If you've been pregnant at least 2 times

was the level of difficulty/ease with which you got pregnant with #1 vastly different than that with #2 +? Just curious. One of my coworkers is currently pregnant with #2. #1 was a "surprise," but it took her 8 months to get pregnant again. Another coworker had to take clomid to finally get pregnant with #1, and then a year later, was shocked to hear she was pregnant with #2!

Just curious what everyone's experience was. I know there's no way of predicting my experience, but I didn't realize this was a common trend until someone mentioned it to me.

  • It seemed to be the same for me my first 2 times, at a month or two.  My third and last was the quickest at less than a month/maybe one try.  I had my first at age 30 so I'm not that young.  My husband is pretty proud of himself.

  • Took 3 years to get pregnant with DS.  That included 2  RE's, many rounds of unsuccessful IUI's, and then got pregnant on our own during a cycle break (was told it was a less than 2% chance of conceiving on our own.)  Took 4 months to get pregnant with DD.

  • Not different at all. It took us two cycles each time (with charting).

  • 1.) DD was sort of a shock. We were avoiding during fertile times. We had an oops, but I didn't think much of it because I was certain of when I ovulated. You can imagine my shock when 9 weeks later that + was sitting there.

2.) We got married in September, had my IUD removed then, tried and got pregnant in October, miscarried in Nov.

3.) I wasn't sure if I would ovulate on time after my miscarriage, so I used OPKs to determine that. My micarriage was Nov 17th and I got my BFP on Dec 13th.

  • #1 took us 4 cycles

#2 was a surprise, we weren't preventing but we weren't trying either

    #3 took us 3 cycles

  • #1 was a surprised to ExH and I when I was 20 #2 took us 3 years to conceive. There is a 12 year age difference between both of my DD's. We were told by two different specialists that we would not be able to get pg. A month later we found out we were pg with DD#2.
  • My late term m/c: surprise

#1 got pg w/in a month of trying

    M/c's 2,3, and 4 were total surprises.

#2 we tried for 8 months then gave up, I got pregnant 2 months after we stopped trying.

  • It took me 11 months and 1 m/c to get pg with DD1, it took me 4 months and 1 m/c to get pg with DD2.

So yeah it was easier to get pg the second time....but not vastly.

  • My first pregnancy was a surprise when I was 20 years old.

My 2nd pregnancy was 12 years later and I got pregnant the first month we tried!

I pray that I'm able to get pregnant easily when we try for #3!

  • I got pregnant easily all 3 times. Staying pregnant was another story.

  • All three were planned. 1 & 2 I got pregnant the first try. With Drew it took 6 months.

  • Preg #1 - m/c - After cycles ranging from 25 days to 50 days, and 6 months trying, I did clomid and got pregnant the first month.

DS #1 - Pregnant first month trying after m/c (no clomid)

DS #2 - Pregnant first month TTC (no clomid)

  • We've been lucky and have had a really easy time: DS1 was a honeymoon baby.  I got pregnant with DD while BF'ing DS1 (they're just 11 months apart).  I got pregnant with #3 our first month trying, but had a m/c at 13 weeks in March 2009. I got AF April 2009 and pregnant with DS2 May 2009.

  • My first was the one my husband wanted. I was breast feeding so it helped me from not getting preggo right away but when she was 6 1/2 mths old i got preggo with my son which i wanted. My youngest i wasn't even trying for but she came anyway and it was quick a onetime deal
  • With DD I got pregnant 1 month after stopping birth control. This time I never had regular periods after DD, I had 3 periods over 6 months and a BFP when DD was 9 months old. We weren't TTC or TTA once DD hit 6 months.

  • We didn't have to "try" with any of them, but I think that I am not the "norm" by far.  I nursed and it took a while for AF to come back (6-9 months each time), I don't think that I've had two consecutive AF's in 6 years :)

  • We started TTC in April 09, I found out I was pregnant in May 09, due date would've been January 25, 2010, but I ended up having a natural miscarriage. We started trying again right away in June 09 and I found out I was pregnant with Bryce in July 09, he was due March 12, 2010, but born March 3, 2010. I got my first pp period May 5, 2010 and found out I was pregnant again June 15, 2010 and I was due February 12, 2011, but ended up having Emma by c-section January 28.

So, basically the first 2 times trying we got a positive the first cycle and the 3rd pregnancy was a surprise.

and thanks everyone for sharing--it's definitely interesting hearing everyone's experience. Maybe this might convince DH we need to TTC a bit earlier . . . .
