what are you wearing to bed?

I spend most of my days completely topless since I spend most of my days at home. I dread going out because my boobs get smooched and sore in my nursing bras/tanks with breast pads. I am EBF and finding it very difficult to figure out what to wear to bed at night. I want to avoid wearing breast pads to bed but I either leak all over my shirt or the sheets. I sleep with an extra blanket under me but once LO wakes up for a feeding I am leaking all over the blanket and then him with my other breast forcing me to change his clothes in the middle of the night. Any suggestions on what to wear to bed and not leak everywhere? Not sure if this is just a "let-down" phase but it is quite annoying!

Thanks!

Re: what are you wearing to bed?

  • I wear a nursing bra and just stick a pad on the unused boob while she's feeding. I usually only leak during letdown so I don't need pads between feedings.

  • I dont have any advice on what to wear but if you dont get much of a response from this board you might want to try babies: 0-3 months board, they might have some good ideas.

  • I wear a loose nursing tank with thin Medela pads in it. The pads soak up the leakage pretty well.

  • First of all, I'd seriously rethink not wearing a bra, ever... the extra weight of the milk in your boobs will pull them down, stretch out and make them saggy.  Personally I wear either a nursing tank or bra and underpants to bed.  The leaking everywhere constantly stopped for me around a week after my milk came in, because my body got used to the amount of milk my kid usually wanted and adjusted supply accordingly.  My 'off' boob still tingles and expresses a little milk during letdown, but it's just a few drops.

You may want to look into different types of nursing pads (the johnson & johnson ones have a depression in them to accommodate a nipple, but not all do).  There are other products like the medela softshells ( https://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2403244 ) which can prevent rubbing and help catch the extra milk.  You may also want to call the LLL and see if they have suggestions.

  • I leak like a faucet.  I wear a nursing sleep bra (looks like a sports bra) with some nursing pads in it.  Otherwise I wake up in a cold wet puddle.
  • I'm pretty much living in nursing tanks right now.   I keep a nursing pad in when I'm not nursing,  Otherwise I leak everywhere too. GL
  • I wear sports bras with nursing pads and sometimes I'll throw on a large loose fitting cotton top or nursing tank.

  • I wear the sleep nursing bras from motherhood maternity. They are loose and comfortable to sleep in.
  • Nursing tanks and bras, and whatever cami's that are easy-access and have built-in bra's.

  • Nursing tank or sleep bra (from Motherhood Maternity - but they easily stretch out) and I wear nursing pads. I don't know if I necessarily need them all the time, but I wear them all the time. I also throw a t-shirt on if I'm chilly but take it off when I nurse.
  • Thanks so much for all the advice. I wear a nursing tank pretty much all day and all night. I use the Lansinoh breast pads during the day (when I'm not airing the 'ladies' out) and just started using cloth pads to bed, aka baby wash cloths folded up. This is to prevent any type of infection or thrush since the pads can hold in a lot of moisture. I'm looking into buying actual cloth breast pads from etsy or bed bath and beyond.

    Thanks again!

  • I bought some cloth nursing pads called Milk Diapers.  I really like them so far.  It seems like a lot of people can get by with the 4 layer pads but I guess I'm extra leaky and have to use the 5 layer pads with the waterproof layer in them.  I got so tired of slapping down money for the disposable kind since I change them after every nursing session.  I still use a mix of disposable and cloth since I'm not always the best about getting laundry done.  What I wear to bed really depends.  I either wear a bra, nursing PJS or nursing tank.  I always have problems with the pads not being in the right place while sleeping and getting whatever I'm wearing wet anyway.
