I had the Chicco Keyfit 30 carseat. There are two Chicco Keyfits, one has a 22lb weight limit and the other is a 30 lb weight limit. I have no complaints about it. I felt that DS was safe in it. I only used the infant inserts for a few weeks, but DS was a large baby. I have a friend who had a 5lbs baby and she used the inserts and said she felt her daughter was safe in it as well. DS outgrew the carseat in 6 months, but I also have a giant child. If you decide you want the Chicco email me, cause I am currently selling ours, its Adventure color. tobewed09@gmail.com. GL
I have the Chicco Keyfit and DD is a little under 18 pounds now. She will likely outgrow it lengthwise before she makes it to the 22 lb limit and if she doesn't, I may borrow someone's Keyfit 30 since I prefer to keep her in it as long as possible. I stopped taking it out of my car for the most part though a week or so ago (mostly because my bulging disc doesn't allow for me to carry all that weight) but haven't found it to be overly heavy or bulky.
We have the Chicco Keyfit and Evan is about to max out on the weight limit (22lbs). We moved him to a convertible car seat in my car about a month ago and he prefers it. DH still has the infant car seat in his car, but we don't usually take it out. He hates being in it if it isn't in the car, so we either put him in the shopping cart, highchair, or stroller depending on where we are going. We need to get another convertible car seat ASAP.

I hate, hate, hated my Peg Perego Primo Viaggio. It was the most bulky and heaviest of them all. I would pick up other infant carriers that belonged to friends and was envious. However, this was 4+ years ago so the new design might be much lighter.
My sister got the Britax Chaperone and really likes it.
We have the Peg Perego Primo Viaggio and while it is on the heavier side of most infant seats it did not seem to bother either of us. It has higher safety standards so I felt most comfortable with this seat. The height/weight limit is 30/30 and lo hit the height limit so we moved to a convertible seat First Years True Fit Premier.
We have 2 bases/ 2 infant seats if you ever want to try them out. I'm actually getting ready to sell both sets if interested.

We got the Maxi Cosi Micro for our youngest and love it. We got it to go with our Quinny and have never had an issue. The fabric has worn well through washes and was very easy to handle with and with out the baby in it. It held up so well I am about to install it tonight in preparation for the next little guy.
I will say that our youngest is a little guy so we never had any issues with him outgrowing it too soon. We like the Maxi Cosi products so much that we bought the Priori for him when he was ready to move up and love it too.

I used a Grace Snugride infant seat with DD and had no problems. I have no experience with their infant seat but I love my Maxi Cosi Priori (convertible) seat.
It was recommended by Consumer Reports and had good safety ratings, etc. But honestly the reason I picked it over the other brands is because I was tired of a looking at a boring car seat all the time and I wanted something fun in my car. Mine is a cute turquoise/sky blue color (discontinued now - I think it was called Frisbie) and I love it.
we had the keyfit 30 and used it with both kids without any issues.. My one complaint is that the sun shade is a tad small.. Other than that, loved it.. I also was able to sell it super quick on CL when we were done with it
I have the regular snug ride (22 lbs I believe it goes up to) and its perfect. Its not too bulky and even though Olivia is already 15+ lbs it isn't too heavy for me to carry.
I had the Keyfit 30. DS didn't hit the 30 (and wouldn't have hit 22) but he did get too tall for it at 6 months. Maybe 7 actually.
I didn't think the carseat itself was too heavy, just my kid IN the carseat. I don't think it would have matter what seat I bought. I pretty well quit carrying him in it unless I HAD to. Like if I were leaving the seat at daycare or if he was asleep.

I'm looking in to this now. Thanks for all the suggestions.
As a note. Mia just turned FOUR and isn't 35 pounds yet. We'll never, ever get to be in a booster, I'm afraid.
Kamryn just turned 3 in Dec and is 26 pounds
Kohen will be 5 in May and is 36
