Chances of genetic defects with IVF?

Are the chances of genetic defects higher with IVF? Or with IF meds in general for that matter? I just wanted to get some info on this for a friend. If you know of any resources I can research on this that would be great too! Thanks!

I was told it's slightly higher with IVF.  Not because of the drugs, but because the conditions are less trying to the embryos than "natural," so it gives some embryos with defects a chance to survive and implant that wouldn't naturally get that chance.  This was from the material we were given at our IVF consult.

Yep all this plus if you are doing ICSI the egg has to be slightly manipulated in a way that it generally is not...that is why my RE was very adamant about doing the 1st and 2nd tri blood screening and NT scan.

He gave us statistics...I *think* the general population was about 2.5% and IVF babies were like 4.2%.  So not a huge difference but there is some.
