We found out a few weeks ago that we are having a girl. DH is very nervous since he is an only child, never held a baby or been around babies very much. He was concerned that he is not going to know what to do with a girl.
I told him all he needs to know for the first year or so is to wipe front to back. He thought about that for a second (you could see the gears turning) and said "yeah! you wouldnt want the poop to go up into the pee place. I can do that! This will be easy!!"
Got to love them lol!
Re: My advice to DH
MH is totally comfortable holding babies. Me, on the other hand, is a whole other story. I am so terrified of breaking them, hopefully it comes more natural when it's my own.
after having two boys, and then finding out our 3rd was going to be a girl, dh was a little freaked out.
but not long after we found out we were having a girl, a friend of his had just had a daughter and he said something to us, that he said his father in law had said to him:
for a man, having a baby girl is just like falling in love all over again
and i swear it's true, dh and dd are best buddies

That is awesome!
Last night we were laying in bed and my DH sits up all the sudden and looks at me funny. I was like, are you ok? He said, yea, but I was just thinking....
Is the baby laying up and down or side to side at this point? I responded by saying it depends, the baby still has enough room to move, so I guess whatever is comfortable at the moment. His responses, ok good. I cant imagine being on my head for that long....I looked at him kinda funny and he proceeds to say, "Maybe the baby doesnt have a sense of gravity, yet"
He then rolled over and went to bed...
I'm with you! My husband is from a huge catholic family and has been around babies his entire life. He's teaching me the ropes!! My first experience with babies is when my niece and nephew were born 3 1/2 years ago. I remember I went to see them in the hospital and was just staring at them. My brother was like "You can hold them you know". Then my mom put them BOTH in my arms for a picture. I was terrified I would drop one and made her take them back as soon as she was done with the photo!! I've probably cleaned 2 pee diapers EVER (no poop diapers). So, I too am hoping the good ole mother instincts kick in. LOL
Lol exactly! You need to break it down into terms they understand! When we first talked about having kids I told him it was like a business....lot of start up costs!
Too cute! Love that, and I'm stealing it and telling J that tonight!
he was so funny when we went to register. He just loved all the little pink things, and anything that says "daddy's girl" instantly turned him into mush and got scanned! He said he had no idea he would turn into such a girly man so fast!
You held 2 at once? I think I would die. I will only hold one if I am sitting down, I am scared to be standing while holding a baby. I did babysit a 6 month old for a few months so once he gets to that age I think I will be OK.
This is me, as well. I've changed diapers, but only after the mom's put them on the change table, or if they were on the floor to be changed. I'm always worried about holding babies, especially when they're not able to hold their own heads up yet.

I didn't have much newborn experience before my first. You get to practice and learn at the hospital. I figured they were more fragile and couldn't imagine how to get a shirt on w/o breaking an arm, but these little babies are flexible and sturdy (just think, they've been bent and smoshed and then birthed)!
As for daddies, have the nurses teach them how to do the diapers. After they see us give birth, are they really going to balk at a little poop? I don't think fatherhood sinks in until the baby is really here for most guys, my husband is no exception. I think most will raise to the occasion and do far more than they expect or than their dads ever did, they are from a new generation where most of them want to be hands on. At least as hands on as anyone really wants to be with a dirty diaper!
This is exactly my husband. We went yesterday to Babies R Us and when we were walking through the store I saw him sneak and scan a bib that said "Daddy's Little Angel." When I said, "so you liked that one, huh?" He was like "Yeah!" Then, like your husband, we proceeded to add anything with Daddy's Little Girl to the registry. That's what I get for letting him hold the scanner
This is hilarious. I love the questions that come from my DH. I'm so glad his curiosity is growing. SO much fun!
