1st Beta and progesterone level?

Well my doctor just called me back I am definitely pregnant! My beta was 169. However apparently I have really low progesterone levels so I have to start taking the progesterone tablets. Is anyone else still taking or just started taking the tablets? How hard are they to put in? How long did your doctor say you would have to take them for?

Thank you in advance!

  • Although I am on Crinon now (which is also a vaginal insertion, just a gel) I have done prometrium in the past which is just like a pill that you just insert.  Your pharmacy may give you an applicator (like a tampon), otherwise it's pretty easy just to use your finger(s) to insert it.

  • With DS I was on the prometrium for ~12 weeks.  With the Crinone I was told I would be on it until about 7 weeks.

  • Whats the difference between the prometrium and crinone? It sounds like crinone would be easier to use, and for a shorter time? I'm so nervous now!

  • I'm also on vaginal progesterone.  I think I'm supposed to be on it through the end of the first trimester.  It's annoying, but I feel reassured that it will be one less thing that could possibly go wrong.

ETA: They aren't hard to put in.  Just make sure you put it in far enough - I push mine in as far as my fingers will reach; it makes for less discharge later.

I don't know much about crinone though.

  • don't worry about the period of time, I think it's just a doctor preference, the Prometrium is the pill and you just insert it.  The cinone is a gel, it's in a tampon type applicator and you just squirt it up.  Both are pretty nasty and you will have cottage cheese type clumping, it's totally normal.  If I had a choice it would be the Prometrium, only b/c I took that at night so the discharge was less.  The crinone I take in the morning so have to wear panty liners all day long.  But both are forms of progesterone so you can't go wrong.
