Most monday mornings I get to sleep late, but not this morning : /
Last night I was so constipated that I felt like throwing up. Didn't have time to go to the store for medicine so I looked up rememdies that I may have in the house and I saw one that called for a tablespoon of brown sugar and ice water. I ate it, drank my water and eventually drifted off to sleep. I woke up early to find myself on the toilet having extremely painful bowel movements. This is horrible!
Re: Horrible Morning
That's not true. If her bowel movements are painful, then she most likely IS still constipated. Constipation is not "not going." It refers to bowels that are very hard and compacted. Often, constipation coincides with an inability to have a bowel movement, but they are not one and the same. It is a common misunderstanding. I didn't realize what constipation really meant until a nurse informed me of that.
To the OP, sorry
That does sound like a rough morning. Colace, a stool softener, is supposed to be safe during pregnancy I believe. I would recommend getting some. It should help.
I have in the past (not while pregnant) taken Correctol, a soft stool softener, and have woken up with extreme cramping and painful bowel movements, but everything has come out. I felt better after the pain!
Sorry if you are still feeling bad, I interpreted that you had gone, but you were just in pain.
I'm so sorry
Have you tried taking Colace? Supposedly it's a lot less harsh on your tummy than some of the other OTC meds.
Have you tried eating prunes or drinking prune juice? That can REALLY help.
Sorry, I think you interpreted her post correctly. I think she has gone. But I was just trying to say there's a difference between not going and going but having painful bowel movements. It is the painful bowel movement that leads me to believe she's still constipated because that means her bowels are still very hard and compacted which is why I recommended colace to her because that is a stool softener that I think is safe during pregnancy (though she should double check with her doctor). Sorry if my response confused you. All I meant was that just because a person has successfully had a bowel movement, doesn't mean the constipation is over. Does that make sense?
Yes, thanks! I never really knew the difference. I just figured once you go, you aren't constipated...
Thanks for explaining!!!
