Need Encouragement

I am in serious need of encouragement this morning. DS is usually a great sleeper and has been doing a stretch from 7-7 with only 1 or 2 feedings. Lately (this past week) he has increased the number of wake-ups to 3, and is starting to comfort nurse significantly more. Last night he woke up every hour to comfort nurse. I have gotten no sleep. We do co-sleep but I find it difficult to sleep when he is latched on. I have a spitting headache and am beginning to judge my parenting abilities. I'm not sure if this waking is due to a food allergy, lingering cold or perhaps a growth spurt. On top of it all my DH is working 80+ hour weeks and needs his sleep. Being a mom can be so rough at times :(

     I'm sorry its rough for you right now! I could've written most of this myself... and although I don't know the cause, it happens for us sometimes too.  My assumption is that he just needs comfort and to be close to you. We also co-sleep and I agree,  'good' sleep' doesn't happen with your LO right next to you! But I just want to say it sounds like your doing a great job and giving your baby what he needs. Keep up the good work and as long as it seems like he's getting enough to eat, I wouldn't worry.

    If he has had a lingering cold, his increased night wakings might be due to an ear infection. I would call your pedi.

    DD started doing the exact same thing. Had a cold for about 10 days, and in the past 2 nights had started to wake up much more frequently. I took her in to the doc, and she did indeed have a double ear infection.

    Hang in there!  I'm sure it is just some sort of phase like a growth spurt.  Maybe he will give you a good nap day :)  Get a little bit of caffeine for your headache and nap when he does today!  Good luck.
