So my sister just turned 37weeks today (4th kiddo) She keeps saying how she wants the baby to come sooner than later etc.. thats all fine whatever floats her boat.
However, she keeps saying she is "full term" I always thought full term was 40weeks, 37 weeks just means the babys lungs are developed and they won't stop labor after 37 weeks.
We are argueing over FB on this and I thought the wise bumpies would have an anwser!
Re: What do you consider "FULL term" 40wks or 37wks.
I was told full term = 37 weeks.
37wks is full-term.
I was told my baby's lungs were developed at 35wks and they wouldn't stop labor after that.
SO then what do we call 40weeks????
"Overdone" lol
"Can't be pregnant forever?"
Lol
It's still called full-term I believe. 37-40wks = full term. I *think* the term for 40+wks is past-term.
I guess its just a matter of personal opinion and dr's opinion.
This is just one of the MANY frusterating topics I have to talk to with my sister...
can't wait for her to be done being pg and hormonal!
I'll go with that. thanks
Cobaby...my sister was the same way...She was due 3 weeks after me and she was expecting the baby to come when my baby did. She would.not.shut.up about it. Since she was on her second one she felt her baby would come earlier and faster than mine. Nope. My baby came late at 40 weeks and 5 days and her baby came I think exactly at or around her due date...40 weeks. Her DC was born 2 weeks later than mine.
Why do sisters have to be so annoying!!
Why do sisters have to be so annoying!!
This.
I have no clue! lol
37 weeks is full term, full term means that the baby's lungs are developed.
My midwife told me there's not really a "due date" but a "due umbrella" which is 37-42 weeks.
This. Although I felt that the closer I got to 40, the better it would be for DS

This. However, I was always told that 37 weeks is "term", meaning the baby is developed enough to avoid major complications and labor won't be stopped. It also means that if your LO arrives at 37 weeks, they won't be considered "pre-term". Pregnancy is 40 weeks, ergo, 40 weeks is "full term". Anything after that is "overdone", lol.

"Full term" is a range from 37-42 weeks.
If a baby comes spontaneously after 37 weeks, the labor will not be stopped, as it is assumed that baby's full lung development has triggered the labor. But induction before 39-40 weeks is not advisable.
I always considered 42 weeks to be full term so that I wouldn't watch the clock once I passed 39-40 weeks.
