Success after IF

I want to take back my freak out post

a few weeks ago about Jack's 6 month Dr's appt and all the foods the Dr wanted us giving him. After you guys talked me down and I decided to follow Jack's lead it's been so much fun feeding him. He is finally getting it and seems to really enjoy it! It's nice to be able to give him the same foods we are having. I could not understand how a baby with no teeth was going to eat these foods but he's doing great! This morning we went for breakfast and he had eggs, banana, and pancakes. Tonight we all ate pot roast together. Saves me time and work!

So much for the $50 baby food maker I got.

Thanks for talking me down that night ladies. I totally get it now =)

Re: I want to take back my freak out post

  • go Jack!!  I'm so jealous!  I wanted to do babyled weaning and had been doing a mix of some purees and some of our food...and DH freaked out the other day when Jones gagged a little on something...sigh.  So..just purees for us for right now again :(  Although...i did go to the store today and buy just about every kind of puff, melt and mum-mum so that DH can get over his fear of DS choking while he learns to eat chunkier food.
  • Loading the player...
  • Nice work Jack! Will has no interest in anything with texture. He went through a phase for about 2 days where he did, but since then, gag city, even if it's not chunky enough for him to gag on! I join mousey in being jealous!
  • Awesome! I still haven't gotten up the guts to give solids yet... We bought one package of a puree today, but I really want to do babyled weaning and my darn book hasn't shown up from Amazon yet. If it's not here tomorrow I'm sending them a nastygram since it was supposed to be here Friday (I have Prime)

  • Mousey My Dh is the same way and I was worried at first too. The first few gags and coughs made me so nervous but I had to stay calm to prove to my Dh he can do it. He still gags a little at some things and makes faces at new things but for the most part he has eaten everything we have given him. He actually started picking up puffs yesterday.

Ladies, I can't believe how big our babies are getting!! Can someone please find the darn pause button!!

  • Hey ladies - are you still waiting 3-4 days between introducing foods? I would love to something other than jarred purees soon and want to try mixed foods - are eggs ok this early? That would be great protein

I feel like i've read something about eggs being a possible allergen...but allergen studies are all over the place right now...researchers seem to be debating about whether its better to introduce early or late.  that being said, DS has had eggs several times already.  And I stopped doing the 3-4 day thing almost immediately...partially because I am lazy and wasn't that organized to always have enough for 3-4 days...and partially because he wasn't liking so many things that I ended up offering him things that I knew he would like..(like any flavor of yogurt!)
  • I was not anal about the kinds of foods I gave my babies..As long as the pieces were small and cooked well, I was pretty open.

I gave them both eggs much earlier than suggested with no problems..but it was still closer to 9-10 months.

The foods I was cautious with were egg whites, strawberries, and peanut butter.

  • I am glad you are feeling so much better about introducing foods!
