another Target Medela fail

I tried to return my full price Medela at 2 different Target's that had clearenced them out today and no go. I did scan the bar code at each Target and it came up as "Item not Found." I decided to try anyway at the first store and got a high school kid who was really nice and wanted to help, but called a manager when it came up as "clearance/salavaged." The manager came out and she went off on me telling me that it was illegal in the United States to return a breast pump at all. After explaining that it wasn't open, etc., she told me it didn't matter. I told her that she had no idea what she was talking about that I'd take it to another Target. She threw the receipt at me and walked away.

Second Target it came up as item not found when I scanned the bar code as well, but the woman was really nice and just let me return it for the full price.

BOOOOOOOO.

Re: another Target Medela fail

  • That sucks!  I can't believe the first manager acted that way.  I was prepared for them to just say no but I would have been shocked if someone acted that way!

  • What a b. I would have asked for her to show me that law/policy in writing, but that's just me. I wasn't able to get one of the clearance pumps today either. Oh well, we tried!
  • Yeah, I was kind of embarrassed for her. The other high school kid who was working behind the customer service counter looked horrified. Thankfully there were no other customers around - I may have muttered something not so nice under my breath when I walked away.

Yeah, I thought of this and a million other responses I should have had, but I was completely caught off guard by her reaction that I didn't have time to think!

  • Do you have other Targets around? I would call and tell them the DPCI # and ask what they were selling it for. If the number brings up the price, that should mean it wasn't "clearenced out" or whatever, then you can try there.

I had a bad experience over the phone with one Target, but in person another store was great -- they didn't even make my H "return" the item, they just did a price adjustment.

Don't give up yet! I'd keep trying, it's worth it.

  • what targets did you go to?  I bought a full price at target in woburn but was going to try to get the $94 in medford or everette

  • It looks like it's possible that the price reset at the clearance Targets. I do remember a girl on here saying that it would probably not last past two weeks.

What's the crap about it being a law? That's two Targets I've read about that say they have to "get rid of it" when returned. If it has the sticker still covering the opening (proving that it's never been opened) then wtf?

Sorry! I think our Medela fun is about to run out for sure.

OMG that's crazy! What about the seal on the box that says something like "Breastpumps are a hygenic product and cannot be returned AFTER opening"? I would have shoved that in her face!!

I know some of us have been really lucky at returns (myself included). I'm sorry you didn't have a good experience. The girl that did my return would have accepted mine even if I had opened it - she kept asking if there was anything wrong with it. She didn't even look at the box. It just goes to show how different all these Targets/employees can be!

  • Yeah, I think that I just got in on the deal too late. An aquaintance of mine saw one at a Target for $94 back at the beginning of January, so it may be that most of the stores around here have reset their systems for this item. It's a bummer because if it had still be in the system for the clearance price, the first employee I talked to would have helped me in a heartbeat!

I know Danvers had them on clearance. I got the last one. Maybe they'll let you "exchange" it there.

  • When an item is on clearance for too long at Target, they take it out of their system completely. Target's whole clearance process is insane.
