So, DH, Tegan and I have been in Nashville for the whole weekend. Today, we were flying back and got to the airport about 2 hours early. We found a little play area (it was awesome!) with all sorts of soft sided slides and other little playscaper type items. Tegan had a blast climbing the steps and then sliding down all the little slides.
Well, my mom was holding Tegan's hands and letting her walk on her own. She let go of Tegan's hands and Tegan took 3 steps all on her own!!! She walked!! It was so cool and everyone in the airport must have thought we were crazy because of the screaming and celebrating, lol! We got home around 4 and ever since we've got home, Tegan keeps coming up, getting me to help her stand and then letting go to stand on her own.
It's interesting, though, because I find myself constantly questioning my parenting. I wondered today if maybe the reason she hasn't been walking is because I haven't taken her to play at something like the playscape in the airport. Before today, I just felt like she'd just get knocked around by the bigger kids in some of the these play type places, you know?
Re: AW: I'm so freakin excited!!
Ummm, you're not doing anything wrong as a parent. The reason she hasn't walked yet is because she wasn't ready. Now she is probably gaining the confidence to start walking soon. She is only 13 months old. She's not late to the game by any means.
Congrats on seeing those first steps though. It's precious.
The rational side of my brain knows this... it's the irrational side that I'm having a tough time convincing...
Seriously, you're WAY over thinking this. Tegan was ready because she was... ready. There is nothing in the world you can do to "make" them walk. They do it when they feel confident enough to do so.
Congrats on seeing her first steps! That is wonderful!!!
