If I was working/traveling I think it would be great, but for home, I like to keep books in different places, like the car, the porch, and by the bed, so I don't have to always look for 1 book when I have 5 minutes.
I never thought I'd like it either but I got a Kindle from Santa this year and honestly, I love it. It's smaller than a book so it's easy to toss into my purse. It always remembers my last page (no annoying kids to pull out your bookmarks). And I can have a variety of books at my disposal at all times.
Plus I can get books from my library online or free from Amazon so I don't have to pack up and drag my kid out to the library when I want something new/free.
That is cool that you could borrow it. I was skeptical too, because I love the feel of a book in my hand as well. I just dowloaded the Kindle to my Ipad, and finished my first book yesterday. The only thing I didn't like was that it just ended. I had no clue the book was almost over.
I think it will be useful at times, but I am still going to check books out of the library.
My SIL has a Nook and loves it. My mom got QVC's version of an e-reader a month ago and she likes it a lot too.
I post on the Nest Book Club board and the e-readers are discussed all the time. All along, I've said that I didn't want one, but I am starting to see some of the benefits. I have about $150 in Amazon gc's and while my first inclination is always to buy stuff for the kids, I was thinking that I'd actually treat myself for a change and get a Kindle. However, part of me thinks that I really am a 'book in hand' kinda girl, that I won't like it once I get it and I'll be annoyed that I spent my gc's on it. I wish I could borrow one from the library to see what I think. That's neat that yours loans them out.
I love my Kindle! Books are cheaper and you can borrow books from other Kindle owners. Plus every episode of Clean House they find bins and bins of books and I am going to turn into that person if I keep buying books the way I do and not getting rid of them.

I downloaded the kindle app for my phone and have read 6 books in the last 4 weeks. I absolutely love it, but I also read blogs etc... on my phone and short stories before this.
