Asher has had diarrhea since Thursday afternoon. It has gotten more solid, but he is still going all the time.
Friday we started him on the BRAT diet and added in pedialyte, but he is still going! I am also continuing to breastfeed him.
Do I need to stop breastfeeding him? His mood is generally fine, and he is sleeping well, and does not have a fever. But he won't stop pooping, and his poor bum is all red and irritated!
Is there something more/different I should be doing?
Re: What to do when baby has diarrhea?
We deal with this every once in a while, usually while on one of the stronger antibiotics.
LOTS of desitin for the poor bottom, before the skin starts to break!
I have read (but don't know for sure of the "official" recommendation) that you can basically keep the diet same as usual to be sure he's still getting good nutrition. I'd keep breastfeeding. If anything, it'll provide some comfort to him!
Of course, you already know to just make sure he is keeping hydrated. That's probably most important right now! (And of course, take care of his little bum. I always feel so bad for DD when she gets all red. But the worse is when the skin breaks open.
)
I'm sure you're glad it's not both of your LO's, huh?
Is it something YOU are eating? My mom said anything tomato - like spaghetti sauce, etc, would make my digestion go nuts when I was a baby.
I'd keep nursing though.
