Babies: 6 - 9 Months

what juices did baby drink already?

i know apple juice is ok.. diluted with water.

i gave pomegranate juice with water. DS loved it actually. what else is ok right now?

also whats the  difference between regular apple juice and the one they have for babies? i think gerber.

do all juices should be diluted with water?

Re: what juices did baby drink already?

  • DS has had 100% apple, pear, white grape and prune juice. I always dilute it because I know he doesn't need the sugar. We only use juice to make his oatmeal at breakfast and occasionally give him prune juice if he needs it.

I think the only difference is Gerber is labeled "for baby." You could probably use regular juice as long as its 100% juice.

  • Babies do not need juice since it has no nutritional value and therefore is no longer recommended by many groups and doctors. But it's not 'bad' for them in any way (unless of course they have so much that it is taking the place of breastmilk and/or formula), if you use the 100% juices. They should all be okay, and yes - diluted with water is the best way to go about it.

Some people stay away from more acidic juices and fruits at first, but you go with whatever you feel comfortable with.

Oh and 'Baby juice' is the exact same thing as normal juice, just with a Gerber Baby label put on it. The juice is no different, it's the marketing.

  • Any 100% juice is fine with us- DS has had apple, grape, mango, and a few others.  He doesn't seem to like any more than others.  We just vary so he can try different flavors.

  • Only prune juice for constipation.  We are holding off on others for now.

  • Let me tell, from a mother of three who has made plenty of mistakes, don't give your child juice. There is no need for it. Even if it's watered down. Water is best, it's what their body needs. I struggle everyday with my oldest and wish I had never started it.

    Yes

LO hasn't gotten any juice because pedi said it wasn't needed and I have talked to lots of moms that regret it now that their kids are a little older.

Totally agree!  Once they are 2 or 3 and start going to playdates, parties, preschool, etc. they get juice shoved at them all the time.  I'd hold off while you are able to--my older girl will take juice over all other drinks and foods--it fills her up and she doesn't get other nutrients she needs if I let her drink too much.

  • We gave him about an ounce of apple juice for constipation. But that's it so far. He wasn't a fan. We rarely have juice in the house because it's so bad for you, so I hope to avoid giving it to him at all.
