Re: panic disorder?

  • I've had panic attacks for close to 10 years now and most of that time I've been on medication. However, with my last pregnancy {over two years ago} I got off meds and havent been back on them since. I've had doctors tell me the changes {chemical/hormonal} in pregnancy tend to help panic/anxiety disorders. I'd try to keep with a workout routine, that will def. help.

    Good luck and congrats!

  • congrats mama!  i have GAD with panic attacks, but my panic attacks are pretty much behaviorally controlled at this point i admit.  i went off my meds for depression, my worst problem in the last few years, about 6 months before we started trying to see how i would cope with out them before i got pregnant so i might not be the best source of advice, but, i will say that what gets me through tough times is really reminding myself over and over that i am feeling this pain or anxiety because i'm taking care of my LO.  LO needs me to be med free and this was my first big sacrifice as a mom.  having DH and my therapist as support has been hugely helpful too.  i hope you have a strong support system, that has helped me tremendously.
  • i know its a personal choice for people, but hopefully your doctor did talk to you about options. the med that i'm on (generic for zoloft) is approved for pregnancy, but i know many others are not. good luck during this rough period coming off of it.

  • I have anxiety attacks too.

Went on Zoloft for a while, and decided that I wanted to go without.  I will still get them on occasion, but I try to tell myself, "Your not dying, relax."

Usually something will trigger them, like thinking about finances too much.  Its a sign that I need to take a few "days off" from stress.
