This kid needs to stop hitting me!

She's 19 months old. She hits me a lot. More than she hits her dad. WTF. She smiles when she does it too. Like she wants to do it. I've tried walking away, sternly saying no, time out, and other stuff, but she is a hitter. On a couple of occasions, she's thrown things at me.

Help!

  • We are so there with you. Riley hits me when he doesn't get his way almost everytime. I found for him that walking away only makes things worse. After I tell him no I calmly talk to him and put him on my lap and talk to him if he is melting down. If he isn't melting down and is just a little upset, then I have him sign sorry to me and make sure I am okay. I remind him that hitting hurts, and mommy doesn't like his behavior/action. I will say it has gotten better since we started taking the empahsis off of him and onto his victum.

  • Sabrina turned into a hitter, too. The only thing that helped was a reward chart. She will still occasionally take a swipe at me but rarely - and she's not doing it at school anymore, either.

  • Logan hits me too. It took awhile to find what works for us. With Logan he does it out of frusteration, it got less and less the older he gets and the more verbal he gets. If he does hit, i give him a warning and tell him i have to leave the room, and i can't play if he hits me again. If he does, then i leave for about two min. Hes crying and screaming for me. I come back in and we start to play again.
  • I wish kids could just understand that violence isn't the answer! :P There are times where I think she does it out of frustration (like, if I have pick her up to cross the street). That happened today, I thought was going to have a bloody nose! Other times, she's just being a punk. Like we'll play, life is good, then she'll hit me, and smile. I'll tell her no (i've tried multiple ways), and then she'll give me a hug. Kind of like she's testing me. If I walk away, it doesn't normally phase her. Its like she thinks its funny, but she's the only one smiling.

If she's picking this up from day care, how do I make it stop? Is it a day care deal breaker?

She does the same thing with DH, but maybe i'm being sensitive, but I swear she does it more with me.
