Success after IF

I need super nice (bed) sheets, please.

I'm exchanging a down blanket I got for xmas for some nice sheets. I get the whole thread count thing, but I got burned a few months back when I bought "1000 thread count" ones at some mall kiosk, ($40 for king, shudda' known, lol) and they are SUPER thin. Sure, soft, but thin. And damnit if those things won't stay on the mattress even just ONE night!!!

So how else do I tell if the sheets are "good" sight/touch unseen?

If it matters, check out Amazon 1st, I have a merch. credit to use up there, too. (king size, fitted/top/2 pillow cases)

THANKS!

  • I recently bought some flannel sheets (for my Christmas present) from Amazon and they are amazing!!! I don't buy the high thread sheets either because it doesn't necessarily mean they're soft and great. In the past I bought some egyptian cotton sheets from linen n things and they were awesome too. I go to linen n things or bed bath and beyond and feel the litle samples. I don't go by threadcount really. Sorry to ramble. I know those flannel sheets were sold out around Christmas time so I'll find the link and send to you. (esp nice if you have amazon credit).

  • Not sure of the brand we got (it was a gift a few years ago) but they were med-high range thread count and it said "hotel ..something" on the package.

Wow - that is a ridiculous scavanger hunt of a reply.. I will go look...

regardless - they are fantastic!  They are soft but crisp when you climb into bed and are super durable.

ETA: I can't find anything like ours... sorry, I'm no help.  GL

  • I saw these crazy sheets with 1200 thread count at the mall and wanted them.  I came home and did some research and found this info...

  • I really love our Hotel Collection sheets (not sure if that is a Macy's brand??) I think they are 800 thread count.

I am now mad at myself that I did not change my sheets earlier today because now I am too tired and these days, "new sheets day" is about all I've got-- always the best night sleep!

I have these for our guest bed (couldn't find them when we upgraded to a king but bought the 800 TC same brand, different type) and they are sooooo soft.  And thick. The other ones I have, which are also Hotel have a textured pattern so aren't as soft but are super crisp and feel great imo-- but different, so it depends on your preference.

  • We JUST bought Organic Eucalyptus/Cotton Sheets from Bed, Bath and Beyond.

I LOVE them.  They are 300 tread count, but seriously the best softest sheets we've ever owned, they feel thick like sateen, but are breathable.

  • Don't buy the Sonoma brand from Kohls. Huge waste of money.
  • yeah, see, I hear that TC is not all that matters. I'll check out those links. I can always use the Amazon MC for something else ;-)   (who knew my SIL would buy my brudder a panini maker for xmas too! lol)

thanks galz. any other thoughts welcome. we had a killer set on our queen - super thick and soft, but I don't know what brand they were ;-(

(but OOOOOOHHHHHH, that king bed, best thing we EVA' bought!)

  • I always go to Winners and feel the sheets.  I got Reed's main set from there and they are super good quality.

I have sheets from IKEA for back-up sheets on Reed's bed and they suck.  big time.

  • I bought the no-iron sateen ones from Lands End and loved them so much I bought 3 more sets.  And really, who irons sheets?
  • Thanks for posting DW, we need new sheets too.
    Great places to check!

This would have been my vote too. Fabulous. We love ours. They've held up well through the three years we've had them, better than almost any of our others. AND they're one of the only sets we have that's actually deep enough for our mattress.

I don't remember what thread count our Hotel Collection sheets were, but they got very pilly very quick. :(

  • We have about, oh, 6 sets of these dudes:

    https://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/product.asp?SKU=123861&RN=16&

Only 500 TC but they're leaps and bounds better than the 800 TC one's I got from Macy's.

Anywho, these guys are nice and thick, don't fade, don't shrink, nice deep pockets for thick mattresses and they're super soft out of the pack but just get softer with each wash.

Plus they're cheap.  Even cheaper when you use a 20% coupon.

    Love 'em.

    Hannah

(ps - I don't give a crap what some of the reviews say.  They  rock.)

  • Target has great sheet sets for pretty good deals.  I just bought a set of King Size 700 TC on clearance for $30 yesterday.  They were originally $60 and they are so nice.  I have a few sets of sheets from there and they are all nice!
