Success after IF

Our 1st ride in the ambulance... (PIP)

Let's just set the scene....

I am in the walk-in closet hanging clothes.  DH is holding DS, who just woke up from his nap.  DD is milling about the room, tossing random bits of laundry and dancing to Jack Johnson playing on the radio, an excellent Saturday afternoon.... then...

I hear: "L don't put that in your mouth,  L don't put that in your mouth... L2 (me) get out here!" I turn the corner to see DD with a plastic hanger with a metal top (like from a store)  stuck in her mouth. She had bit down when DH told her to take it out of her mouth and it had penetrated through the soft tissue to the left of her tongue.  She was sobbing and trying to pull it out. I told (read: yelled) DH to call 911 while I immobilized the hanger and kept my hand her mouth to stop her from doing more damage.. no blood, thank god.

2 min later the ambulance arrived, the cut the bottom part off of the hanger and put me holding DD on the stretcher.  We were escorted to the nearest Children's Hospital.  She cuddled the whole way there but didn't cry much (tough cookie - it was 20 minutes away!)

The dr pulled it out and L started what I am sure will be a life-long friendship with popsicles.   All is well - she is sore and had trouble eating some of her supper but played afterwards.

Moral of the story - Laundry is dangerous.  Avoid it at all costs!

lol - I have recovered from the adrenaline rush (aided by 2 glasses of wine).

Why do people jump out of planes and whatnot?  Adrenaline sucks!  I had a massive headache and was achy all over for about an hour after we left the hospital!

  • Oh my God.  I have chills in my feet.  How freaking scary!

So glad you were right there to act quickly and she seems ok!!

  • Very scary!

I have to tell you that a similar situation happened to our close friends. At the time, her DD was around 2 and was playing with some plastic hangers. She put it in her mouth and before my friend could get to her.......the hanger was in the back of her throat :( She pulled it out and blood was everywhere. Her DH was out of town at the time and she called 911. For them, it was a lot worse. Her DD had pierced her TONSILS :( So, off they went for an emergency tonsilectomy.

Then, while at the hospital, children's protective services was called in to make a "report" about the incident. I felt awful for my friend.
