I remember getting into with someone on the tri boards when I was pregnant with DS. She kept talking about how she wanted her delivery gown to be special, and all I could say was, "seriously, it's a piece of cloth that's going to get blood, feces, amniotic fluid, urine, and God knows what else all over it. HUGE WASTE." She told me that I was being a b*tch and needed to get off my high horse. Snort.
I'm sure the nursing staff roll with laughter every time they see some moron wheel in with a designer delivery gown.
Umm...what do you mean, "poop on"? No, really. WHAT?
Sorry to break it to you honey, but you will most likely poop when pushing. You won't notice and they will clean it up right away. I only knew because DH decided to tell me "Hey, I saw you poop ! haha!" in the recovery room. It has happened to every single one of my friends who had a vaginal birth, including my mom (4 times!).

This. I haven't had any children yet, and I knew there was a very good chance you could poop. But from what others tell me, it's the last thing you worry about while in labor and pushing..

LMAO! I love this! Exactly!
When I had DS 4 years ago I did pack a nice pair of new jammies to wear after the birth. They remained packed in my bag the duration of my stay. I ended up taking full advantage of the faded worn-out hospital issue & it didn't bother me a bit!
Yeah, those are ridiculous! I saw someone giving them away on their blog I think and I looked at them and thought...who in their right mind would spend this much on something that will be so disgusting?!?!? I think I wore the hospital gown for the first day then I took an hour long shower in the huge shower with the seat(wonderful) and put a black sweatsuit on but nothing special~

Am I the only one who hates the hospital gowns?? I won't be paying $50 for a designer nightgown, but I'll definitely be packing some sort of nightgown to wear. I just feel much more comfortable in my own stuff. That was the first thing I did after getting my catheter removed when I had DD (she was a C-section). I won't plan on bringing it home, either, though.
especially because these are way cuter and a little less expensive. lol If i were having a hospital birth i don't even think i would think about it. But I'm honestly contemplating the one i posted above. It has nursing snaps etc. Thought it would be cute before/after birth, but definately never for pooping in

I have never heard so such a thing!! The stuff people spend money on. I will defiantly be getting some cute comfy PJs but no designer gown for me. I prefer to poop on hospital issued apparel
Wow..I think that's a rip off..Don't you usually just wear a sports bra while pushing, and nothing on the bottom?
Yep, and make it an old sports bra. My hospital does immediate skin-to-skin contact. While I am glad I got to hold DS right away, I will tell you, the amniotic fluid, etc stains didn't even really come out.
Several people have mentioned buying something cute to where afterward. I wouldn't recommend spending much on this because you are most likely going to be bleeding heavily and I wouldn't want to risk staining something new and expensive.

Ditto this. I was just thinking "ooh I should get a special pair of PJ's for postpartum". Then this comment reminded me of the bleeding. Oh my God the bleeding. I remember sitting in a giant puddle of blood a few hours after giving birth to DS.
Thanks for the reminder! Hospital gown for me please.

My sister and I were talking about pooping when you give birth, and my mom (who had four c-sections) said, "Oh, I bet that all just shuts down." She had NO idea pooping was so common place they have a poop towel. I think that was a little eye opening for her.
I LOVE how the models are posing, too. I doubt very many women are able to pose like that during labor.

I'm a nurse and used to work in mother-baby postpartum. I saw plenty of new moms (usually first timers) wear pretty new pj's or gowns in the hospital. What they didn't know was that they will be wearing a pad the size of a diaper for the first day or 2 and the bleeding is going to be fairly heavy at first. I agree to leave the nice stuff at home, not worth ruining it!
When I was in the delivery room with my mom when she had my little sister, the pooping is the part I remember the most. It freaked me out as a 15 year old. I did not expect that. It came out, slide down the table, and into a plastic bag on the end of the table.
On the gown, I know everyone says you don't want to spend money on something even for afterwards. I just don't find hospital gowns that comfortable and show a little too much whenever I went to visit people. I think I am going to buy some basic black inexpensive gowns to wear after. I know they might be a waste of money but I would rather be comfortable.
Re: PSA: Don't buy designer "delivery gowns"
Seriously! I could have been wearing a garbage bag and I wouldn't have cared
SERIOUSLY.

Ah you hadn't heard yet?
Yeah, most people poop on the table while delivering.

Those are pretty cute. Love the snaps down the back. Sure are heck wouldn't spend almost $60 on something I can make for $10 though.
Thanks for the great idea on how to keep myself busy during my third trimester
