Seriously what is wrong with these Midwives???

So on Monday I was told I was 2 cm dialted then on tusday was back in the ob screening room and was told I was 4 cm and had my cervix manipulated. Then thursday back in there and this other midwife tells me my cervix is closed and I have not effaced at all when I was 4 cm and 50% effaced. This lady must be a quak or just really hate her job!!! What do you all think? I know you can't go from being dialted and effaced to nothing.

  • You actually can. Not sure if that is what actually happened, but it can happen.

  • I def cant speak from my own personal experiance... but I can tell you what happened to my bestfriend.

She went in at her 36 week apt, and was told she was 80% effaced and 3cm dialated. She was told the same thing at 37 weeks, and the Dr said she could feel the babies head...

By her 38 weeks apt, she was completely closed. Dr did a sonogram, and saw that the baby has totally flipped around and was extremely high... And was also running out of amniotic fluid, and was rushed in for an emergency C-section.

Not telling you the  last part to freak you out, because obviously her situation was a little unlikely...

But, yes... apparently you CAN go from being dialated to NOT.

  • Basically what all the previous posters have said... you definitely can go back down to closed.

There are accounts of women having their cervix close up much farther into the birthing process because they were uncomfortable with someone in the room or became otherwise stressed.

  • Sorry, but you can close back up. Try to relax because stress is often a major factor.
