Post if you highly recommend your OB/GYN

I'd prefer to deliver at Yale, Hartford, or Griffin Hospital, but I will consider other hospitals if you truly love being a patient of your OB/GYN.

 Thank you!

Re: Post if you highly recommend your OB/GYN

  • I love Uconn in Farmington.

I miscarried twins last May and I almost died. My ob saved my life. seriously.

I am 24w4d now and they are very good at keeping up with what is going on with my baby and I. I truly would not leave ever...

Dr Alkass (the one that saved my life) and Dr Park are my all time favorite ob's there. the others are nice but I have dealt with the two of them more than anyone.

  • I use Central CT OBGYN (delivers at Bristol) and LOVE them.  I've seen all of the docs and the midwives and they're super wonderful people.
  • I live in Beacon Falls and delivered at Danbury Hospital - I love my OB, he's out of Ridgefield/Danbury.

That said, OP, you mention Griffin?  I've heard some serious complaints about their maternity ward....

  • I have been with my OB practice for 18 years.  My group is County Obstetrics and I can't say enough about them.  All the doctors in the practice are wonderful.  They deliver at Yale.  They have offices in Branford, Clinton, New Haven , and Wallingford.  My husband and I have suffered several losses over the past two years.  We lost twins at 17 weeks and another baby to Trisomy 18.  Both pregnancies were by IVF.  The support I received from my doctors was incredible.  I strongly recommend this practice if you are looking for a new one.
  • I go to Greater New Haven Obs/MWs. They have offices in New Haven, Orange, Hamden and Branford. They deliver at Yale New Haven Hospital.
  • I go to Middlesex OB in Middletown and delivered at Middlesex and loved it! They have a GREAT breastfeeding support group too for anyone that wants to get out of the house and talk about all the great and not so great things that come with BF-ding

  • Dr. Hofrichter in Manchester. She delivers at Manchester Hospital. She has lots of really good suggestions during your pregnancy and also has given me some good suggestions post-baby for any issues I have. Highly recommend her. And she was EXCELLENT in the delivery room. Totally knows her stuff and is a pro.
  • I am going to deliver at Hartford Hospital and I use Dr. Carol Watson. She practices in Avon, CT and she is AMAZING!!! I absolutely adore her and would recommend her for anything. The great thing about her is that she is the one to see you prior to delivery and she is the one to deliver your baby. She practices alone so you are always gauranteed to see her. She also spends as much time with you as you need, she never rushes you out the door and your not just a number. She is awesome!
  • I go to CCOG in southington, they deliver out of Uconn, Bristol or New Britain general. the midwives are the best
  • My ob is Scott Vander Vennet, MD.  He has an office in Shelton and Ansonia and is affiliated with Griffin and Bport Hospital.  I felt strongly about seeing the same MD consistently and he provides excellent care so I highly recommend him. I ended up delivering at Griffin (which is exactly what I wanted) and had a great experience.  Good luck!
  • In the Waterbury area I used to see a fantastic group affiliated with St Marys.  Dr. Matonis & group is great.  My sister still goes to them (and is preg now with her 6th).

I delivered at Hartford Hospital with a great group that have several offices.  Drs Griswold, Jacunski are my two fav's, but I met several practicioners in their office and I have been pleased with all, including their office staff.

And as far as the comment about delivery at Griffin being awful i know a few dozen people who have delivered there and have nothing but wonderful things to say.

  • Dr. Park and Dr. Alkass at the UCONN Health Center are very nice, but avoid Dr. Walsh.  He is extremely arrogant!  When I asked him if I would be tested for gestational diabetes again before leaving the hospital he was short with me and said I'm not going to do it.  I asked him when I could resume a normal diet and he said as far as he is concerned I can eat a box of donuts right after the delivery...I was like um, one might be nice, but isn't a box a bit excessive... I don't eat poorly anyways and resent that comment.  When I asked him how bad the recovery from the C-section would be he said to me, "That depends on how big of a wuss you are."  That really didn't answer my question either.  He also told me that I would be a good candidate for a c-section.  When I asked him why that was he told me that it is because I am not 400 pounds.  Then he went on to tell me that I should be walking 2 miles a day everyday beginning now...I am almost 8 months pregnant and it was my impression that you should never begin a new exercise program while pregnant.  This guy is a total jerk and I am seriously considering reporting him to the hospital.  I wont be seeing him again!

If you want a great OBGYN go see Dr. Ursula Steadman located at 499 Farmington, Avenue, Farmington, CT.  She is amazing.  The only reason why I am no longer with her is because she only delivers at St. Francis in Hartford and I didn't want to go there.

  • I love my OB and the entire group at crescent st obgyn in middletown and middlesex is a great hospital to give birth in! GL
