I ended up calling a lactation consultant who told me it would probably be ok for 24 hours, but that the next line of defense would be to either a) put the milk in a cooler and put the cooler outside overnight, or b) get some dry ice and put it inside the freezer and that should be good for another day or more. We went to a few places and finally found dry ice. It did the trick. The power came back last night around 8pm and this morning the stash was still in tact. Didn't thaw at all. Good grief - what a craptastic situation! I'm glad it's over (knocking on wood)! Thanks for your advice!
we went through this last summer with a day+ power outage. i ended up moving my feezer stash to my parents' house 30 minutes away because i wasn't risking it. i'm glad to read about the dry ice suggestion. i'll try that next time i'm in this situation.
