New to The Bump

How big should your bump be?

I am 10 weeks 4 days pregnant with my first and have a pretty good bump. I am a very slender person but I have been told I look much further along than I really am. Is this normal? I was also wondering if its too soon for maternity jeans

Re: How big should your bump be?

  • Please don't try and compare yourself to others when it comes to pregnancy and your kids. Everyone is different, and that doesn't necessarily mean abnormal. Ditto for maternity clothes. If they make you more comfortable, bo for it.

At 10 weeks I was just really bloated- I probably started showing somewhere around 12-13 weeks.  But everybody's different.  Personally I wouldn't have started wearing maternity pants at 10 weeks, but if they make you feel more comfortable then why not?

I wore a Bella Band (or the generic one from Target) for a long time before finally getting some maternity pants late in my 2nd tri.  I loved that thing.  I also wore it for a bit after DD was born.  Maybe pick one of those up first.

I found these two pages helpful when I was curious about growth (me and DC):

  • Big enough to fit your baby inside.
  • Don't worry about it and try not to compare yourself to others. Everyone is different and grows differently. I had twins 4 years ago and showed by 9-10 weeks but I am 20 weeks with my 2nd preganacy right now and just started getting a bump about 19 weeks. I had people saying, you are so small, what if something is wrong? but nothing is. My baby is weighing 10 ounces and growing like a weed even though I have only gained 6 pounds. :) Don't rush into buying maternity clothes yet, you will grow so fast that you won't get much use out of them. Try to wear your regular clothes for a while. I use pony tail holders to hold the button close to the button hole of my pants and then use a bella band over that. Get a small bella band (as small as you can find) that fits you right now because it will stretch with your belly. You won't have to get another later. They are around 20 bucks at target. Then, when this method won't work anymore, look into maternity pants and tops. Good luck!!
