Good God- growth spurts

Holy eating baby! I thought a few days ago LO was having a growth spurt when (during the day) he wanted to eat nearly every hour on the dot... that was tiring. But at night when DH takes over, he was fine; eating as usual. Last night this kid was seriously hungry after 30 minutes of having just finished eating! I'm glad I managed to pump 4 feeding's worth in the fridge yesterday because it allowed me to get some sleep while DH fed him every other feeding... but still! Anyone else's LO's driving you nuts with the growth spurts?

Re: Good God- growth spurts

  • My evenings are spent with a child attached to my breast! Every day from about 5-10 he eats every hour. I know my supply is probably keeping up, but I feel empty and drained! Literally!

  • Our LO was doing the same thing, eating every hour or hour and a half.  I assumed it was a growth spurt too... However my pedi just diagnosed him with reflux.  He said that LO cries out to eat because it's the only way he can think of to stop the burning sensation.

So maybe something to mention to your pedi next time you see them?

: I hope that's not it... thanks for mentioning it, though. I'm say something to the pedi when we see him. Thanks!

  • I think DD is still in her 3 week spurt.  She's not eating too much more often, but is eating for an hour at a time.  Its exhausting.
I give up trying to get a ticker.  I have a DD that is 2.5 years old and is awesome.  Maybe I'll add a quote to distinguish myself.  Hmmm.  How about...

  • My friend who works for a children?s hospital came and spent the day with me this week and I explained to her how Katie ate so much one night (out of character for her) and she explained to me any sensation in their belly will show signs of wanting to eat when really it can be gas.  When I see LO is showing signs of eating (after she has eaten so much) I don?t feed her right away, I pat her bottom, scrunch her up, give her a pacifier and see if she goes back to sleep.  9 times out of 10 she passes gas or goes to the bathroom then goes back to sleep.  My no means and I not feeding her but when I know she has stuffed her face I have tried other things first.

I hope this post doesn?t upset you b/c your LO could very well be going through a growth spurt, I am just passing along information I did not know that helped me out so much!

We've noticed the same thing - my dr. said LO's need to suck could be confused with wanting to eat more. So after feeding, see if LO seems settled after giving pacifier - and if not, then feed more. Most times, LO is satisfied.
