Involuntarily Team Green :(

Had our anatomy scan today- here's the rundown:

Our tech was very personable and she explained everything she was doing.  There were 2 screens in the room so DH and I could both see everything.  She pointed out all the major organs and that everything was on track.  It was very exciting to see LO open and close its mouth, wave its hand, and kick.  DH was really into it.  She said the baby was measuring about 9oz which is small but still within the normal range (neither DH nor I are tall so I'm not worried).  She gave us a CD with pictures to take home.

The tech could not, however, get a shot between the legs.  She tried for a while then I got up and walked down the hall, peed, and jumped around a little.  No luck.

Since that was the only ultrasound covered by our insurance and there are no elective U/S places around, we have involuntarily joined Team Green.  If we decide we want to pay, we could get an elective U/S in PA when we visit in March.  But, at this point I really don't want to spend the money- and March seems so far away (by that point why not just wait it out?)

We were both disappointed but DH quickly got over it and said that the birth will just be that much more exciting.  The rational side of me agrees and is extremely happy to have a healthy baby.  But the hormonal side of me is let down because I was expecting to find out the sex and didn't.  So I cried a little about it.  I know there are a million worse things that could have happened so that is why I only cried a little and forced myself to stop.

Then we went grocery shopping and I got myself some hazelnut chocolate to make me feel better.

Re: Involuntarily Team Green :(

  • Even though I've never planned on being team green, the one thing about that has always appealed to me is that extra edge of anticipation as you're pushing. I'm sure that moment when they hand you your son or daughter will be amazing!

  • I'm sorry you're disappointed... One thing I realized about staying team green, you save a lot of money on clothes! If I knew what I was having, I would totally be broke right now :P

  • Congrats on a healthy baby. I can completely understand your disappointment.

  • Glad your baby is healthy! Sorry you are disappointed, but we were team green (with DS and this pregnancy) and it was AMAZING in the delivery room to hear "It's a BOY!!!" I'm sure it's amazing to hear that at the ultrasound too, but I honestly think it made my labor easier somehow. The entire time I was just like "I can do this! Every minute is a minute closer to meeting my sweet baby!" It was like Christmas morning X 1,000,000.
  • Congrats on a healthy baby! I'm sorry you didn't find out the sex of the baby as you'd hoped! I bet those hazelnut chocolates were good though =D

  • Thanks guys- that helps.  I think now that I've had a few hours to let it sink in I'm ok with it.  I already told DH it helps us not be tempted to buy clothes and cutesy toys, etc.  And it's not like we'll never know!  There will be time after the baby is here to spoil him/ her with cute outfits and the like.  DH said once he saw the baby on the screen he didn't even care anymore whether it was a boy or a girl (awwww), and he said it'll be a funny story to tell our child when they're older.  I think I'm ready to commit to Team Green (just don't expect me to get all excited for the rest of the "It's a ..." posts. lol)

  • I am team uncooperative baby too.  It sucks but the one thing making me feel better is that baby looks okay and apparently takes after momma.

PS Hazelnut chocolate always makes me feel better too.

  • ah, yea that would be tough especially with all of the anticipation built around finding out.  Sounds like you have a good approach though!
