Cramps are contractions?

I was just reading someone's reply to a post about the fact that a cramp can/is a contraction? Is this true or not true? I've been feeling a lot of cramps in my lower back and low abdomen. Am I contracting then ?

I go crazy not knowing whats going on and not knowing what to be expecting.

Technically a "cramp" is a "contraction" of your muscles. However when it comes to all things baby, I have no clue if a cramp is a contraction. Sorry.

Some women relate contractions to cramping in the early stages of labor. I hope you go into labor while DH is home!

I was seen in L&D for what felt like cramping to me and they told me they were contractions. So to me so far my contractions are now "cramptractions".

yes, all of my contractions have been a wave of cramping. I was unsure if they were contractions but doctor has confirmed with a NST!
