So I'm looking at a pile of this in the middle of little man's nursery and ready to get started with the organizing of the nursery.
Do you mamma's have any tips on the best way to organize? I have some closet dividers coming in the mail so I can start hanging stuff, but I have no clue what's best to hang vs what's best to put in the dresser drawers. What am I going to need to be readily available in the dresser vs storage bins, the closet, etc.
Re: Best way to organize nursery??
I have most of Bella's clothes hanging except pj's and onesies. Just because it's easier for me to see what's clean. It's organized in her closet by size too with dividers that I made. In her changing table (aka dresser) her changing pad is on top, diaper creams, wash clothes (we CD), water and hair stuff and nail clippers are in there. 2nd and 3rd drawers are CD's. In her armoire I have sheets and changing pad covers in one drawer and shoes in another.
In Grayson's room I have bibs, socks and hats in one drawer. In the 3 drawers down the right are all diapering supplies. Everything else is hanging. Any food items (like spoons or bottles) are in the kitchen.
A lot of how you organize depends on the way your room is laid out and what furniture you have. What works for one room/house wouldn't for another. BUt, here's what we've got:
There's bins on the changing table that hold: 1. 'sposies 2. cloth diapers 3. burp cloths and a few bibs (the big ones are in the kitchen where he eats solids, these are just the drool ones) 4. pajamas 5. lotions, creams, medicines, cotton balls, vaseline, etc. There is also a stack of blankets, swaddles, and sleepsacks, and the top little shelf (next to the changing pad) has the wipes, his comb/brush, and booger sucker (things we use the most often when changing). Of course, we have a huge changing table, so this helps to fit all of this.
His dresser has clothes by size. In the beginning there was a drawer for each size (NB, 3m, 6m, and up-there wasn't much then). Now the small stuff is packed away in the attic, and there is one drawer for tops and one for bottoms in the current size. There's another drawer for things still too big, and then the bottom two drawers hold misc. baby stuff (there's 6 drawers). We only hang anything that is one-piece, but that's only because the hanging part of the closet is fairly small, but the dresser is big. I know people who hang everything and that works for them, but it wouldn't for us. The closet also has a few pull-out wire bins that have 1. socks/shoes 2. extra sheets/changing pad covers/boppy covers 3. hats.
All feeding supplies are kept in the "baby" cupboard of the kitchen in bins, including bibs. We also have a basket in pretty much every room (his room, our room, the living room, kitchen, and family room) that hold anywhere from 2-5 toys, though that definitely wasn't needed until he was about 3-4 months old and actually played with toys! It's nice to have a few in each room so that a) you don't have to carry them around when you're in different rooms, and b) he doesn't get bored since it always seems like there's new toys when we move around the house.
"His" bathroom (not really just his, but he's the only on who uses it!) has all his bath toys, towels, washclothes, etc.
All of my clothes hang in the closet in our nursery, so we've only hung a small amount of clothing...usually things that are too big for her and we're holding onto until they fit.
For everyday use/organization, we have two 3x3 cube shelves that are divided into 18" square sections. I got some fabric covered bins and lined baskets and used them in the beginning for all of her cloth diapers, cloth wipes, blankets, burp cloths, etc. When she became mobile we switched out some of the bins and but her toys and books in them in the low shelves. Here's a pic from the early days:
I've got to take some more recent ones, but you get the idea.
For clothing, I have a hanging peg rack that I hang some dresses (or now, sweaters) on and the rest is stored in the drawers of her crib.
I also got one of those over door bar of hooks (usually used in bathrooms) and use it to hang the diaper bag, Ergo carrier, etc.

Dang Lori, I even get PIP's?! That's awesome, thank you
All such great tips from you ladies, thank you I greatly appreciate it. The only thing I currently have is his closet and a 6-drawer dresser that I will also be using as his changing station. Luckily his closet is right next to the dresser so I have space to put storage bins in there too if needed. Thank you all for the help and I will look at your helpful suggestions and see what works the best in his room - you all gave me a great starting point which is what I needed

Most of his onesies (long and short sleeved) and pants are in canvas organizers on the shelves below the changing pad on the changing table...that way if he has a blowout or otherwise gets his clothes dirty (I also have a laundry hamper for his dirty clothes next to the diaper pail next to the changing table), I can change him right there instead of running around to the closet or chest of drawers to get his clothes. The clothes are on the bottom-most shelf on the changing table. The shelf right below the changing pad are canvas organizers with one for diapers, one for bibs/burp cloths, and a box with extra diapers and wipes, as well as vaseline, thermometers, alcohol wipes (for the thermometer), diaper rash cream, etc.
Most of the stuff hanging in the closet are (well, my clothes =P and...) his "going out" clothes, like jackets, overalls, sweatshirts, etc.
Then in his chest of drawers, I have his sleepsacks, blankets, pajamas, socks, hats, and extra changing table covers. Under his crib, we have a under-the-bed storage bin with his sheets and crib skirts/etc. Most of his toys are downstairs in the living room, where he spends most of his time playing during the day.
we have a dresser w/hutch as our changing table. it's not this one but it's similar
i put CDs in baskets on the shelves in the hutch, wipes in another basket on the space to the right of the changing pad.... the dresser drawers contain her onesies, tops, bottoms, PJs etc i only hang her nicer stuff in the closet so they don't get wrinkled. there is a small drawer to the right of the dresser drawers and i put her socks, hats, headbands/bows etc in there and there's a small cupboard beneath that and that's where i store the CDs that she has outgrown or can't fit yet.
