2nd Trimester

Sitting in the sun

This may sound silly, but is it ok to "lay out" in the sun when 7 months pregnant? I will be away and the weather will be in high 70's low 80's... i really want a tan and some sun! Does the warmth hurt the baby at all?? I can't imagine it does (I know pregnant people go in the sun)

Re: Sitting in the sun

  • Enjoy!!!  Wear sunscreen as you are more prone to sun burn and if you feel hot, get out of the sun so you do not over heat. Drink plenty of h2o and have fun!!!

I will be in Maui at 26 weeks and can not wait to get some sun!!

  • I agree with pp, it's very easy to overheat so lots and lots of water.  Sunscreen is a must and try it out on your skin before you leave because your skin can be a little more sensitive to lotions and things.
  • Really, the only concerns with pregnancy and sun exposure are the fact your skin is a little more sensitive & you are more prone to heat rashes, and being in the sun too long can raise your body temp (that is more of an issue in the first tri... when an increase in your temp can cause NTD and whatnot).
