Re: Reco your dog food please

  • Is it simply airborne allergies, or also food allergies?

My boxer has both, she's done great on Wellness Simple Solutions.  Bella is on the duck variety right now, but there's also a venison I think.

My schnauzer mix has food allergies (corn and chicken).  He also does well on Wellness, but seems to do the best on California Naturals.  Theres only 2 or 3 ingredients in that food.  And it's WAY cheaper than Wellness.  There's also a generic variety of that called Health Wise.

Remember it usually takes a few weeks to notice a difference.  Also be sure to switch over slowly.

Wiping off paws when they come indoors helps with allergies as well, or wiping their whole body off with a damp cloth.  Bella still has to get Benadryl during cedar season.

  • a few weeks ago we switched to california natural lamb & rice small bites. this is the first food (in his 2 years of life) that has not given him tummy issues. i think we finally found a winner! (in the past we tried various kinds of these brands blue buffalo, natural balance, nutro & royal canine.)

  • Mine isn't allergy sensitive, but had some bladder stone issues.. our doggie Dr put her on prescription Hills C/D, and it worked really well.  I've read good things on the brand overall, they might have a line for allergy sensitivities as well.
  • We use this one. It is around the same cost as buying food at Petsmart and they deliver it to our house. The pugs love it, they gobble it right up!
  • My dog has severe allergies, both food and airborn.  She has been on a number of diets specifically for dogs with allergies.  Hills Science Diet Z/D works okay for her.  However the winner of them all is Purina HA.  Both of these foods are prescription and have to be bought through a vet.  In addition to her special foods she is also on cyclosporine, an immunosuppressant.  In regards to food though, the Purina HA is my favorite.

it's mostly airborne allergies, but i've bought dinovite and other supplements to try to get his immune system up. that's a good idea to wipe the whole body down with a damp cloth and the paws. i'm sure he's bringing stuff back into the house that he's allergic too.

  • I second wellness and california natural!
  • We switched to canidae bc one of ours was having skin irritation issues with other foods.
