Does teething = waking up every 2 hrs and crying in sleep?

Curious b/c Matthew did this last night.  Which was weird.

He literally woke up every 2 hrs on the dot and cried for a second and then went back to sleep about a minute or two later. 

Teething?  Something else?  Nothing at all?

    My son did this right before a tooth came in.  He also does this whenever he has an ear infection.  Actually, tugging on the ears comes after a few days of nightwaking every two hours.  It's always my first sign.  Hopefully he feels better soon!

    The waking up, yes.  But he didn't just go back to sleep.  Good times.

    Vivian sleeps like crap while teething. It sucks. Lately we've settled into waking up at 11 pm and 4 am, too. I want sleeping from 7-5 back again.
