I've got a FFFC

Last night, Noah woke up 4 times and Ellie woke up once, meaning that I was awake from roughly 3:30am until 6:15am with only about 30 min of rest time in there.  Then Noah woke up at 7:15am and when I soothed him back to sleep and put him down, he woke up right away and would not go to sleep again, he just kept looking around and was clearly ready to get up and play.  I was so frustrated and annoyed (especially at DH who had NOT gotten up during most of the night) that I put Noah in his bassinet and went out into the living room and just laid down on the couch.  I dozed for about 25 minutes, until I heard him really start to fuss hard then I went back in and fed him, but I also woke up DH to help me get him changed and stuff even though I didn't really need his help.

So my confession is twofold: one, I got so frustrated with my baby I had to dump him in his basket and leave the room, and two I deliberately made sure DH woke up early for no good reason.

(And my real confession is I don't feel that bad about either one of those.)

  • Here's a question, paired with a possible suggestion.

Noah's 3-4 months now.  Is he still sleeping in your room in a bassinet?   The reason I ask is that when Charles was about that age, we realized he wasn't sleeping well because our "night noises"  (snoring, rustling, etc) were waking him up.   Plus, he just wasn't all that comfy in the bassinet anymore.

Have you considered moving him to his own room in a crib??

(And my apologies if you're a co-sleeping type of parent!)

  • Awww I am sorry.  I wish your hubby was being a little more helpful too.  My husband would get up with the older boys when there was a baby in the house since they were easier to soothe & get back to bed.  It's hard not getting much sleep, we had a few rought spots too.  Nothing wrong with how you handled it.

  • We actually moved Noah to the crib in his nursery on Friday night.  He'd been doing naps there during the week and was doing okay with them so we figured it was time.  So far he is sleeping about the same as when he was in our room, so at least it didn't add to any of the wake ups.  I'm hoping that the more he adjusts to that room and crib that the better he'll sleep.  Meanwhile, DH let me sleep till noon (!) on Saturday which was amazing, and he got up early today and took Noah with him into the bathroom while he got ready for work and I got to lay back down for another hour and a half.  I just keep reminding myself that we survived this with Ellie and she is actually a pretty good sleeper most of the time.
