Delivering at University Hospital's Main Campus

Hello, I am a FTM and will be delivering at UH's Main Campus- I have been seeing my OBGYN for about 7 years and have always been happy with her (Dr. Gangestad) but I was just looking for some input on others who have delivered at UH in the past- pros and cons. Thanks in advance!

Re: Delivering at University Hospital's Main Campus

  • I delivered there before. I liked that it has a level III NICU. I didn't like the location, some relatives would not drive down there to see us because of where it was and the parking cost is crazy.

  • The Level III NICU is world renown.  I have a friend who delivered at Fairview Park (Clinic) and her baby had a serious heart defect.  They had to transport the baby to the main campus for immediate heart surgery and the mom had to stay at Fairview!

My sister delivered all 4 babies there and LOVED it.  If you deliver vaginally, you're there for like 2 days...tell relatives to visit you at home if they don't like the location/parking! :)

I delivered at Hillcrest (Clinic) and did not have a good experience.  We are TTC #2 now and will definitely be switching to UH.

  • I delivered at UH and it was nice. The L&D staff is caring and professional. All of the rooms are private rooms. We decided that the upgrade to a "VIP" room was not necessary; our accomodations were fine. The food service was at times slow, but I liked being able to place my own order. I also liked that baby girl stayed in the room with us. Did you know that your visitors can get $2 off parking if they go to the desk and get their parking ticket validated AND they use the valet parking service? Plus when you go into labor they will valet park your car for free. They told us about all of this during the tour- make sure you go on the tour, it was so helpful! I wish you all the best!
  • I work in Rainbow Babies, and just delivered at UH. I have heard nothing but horror stories about the PP nurses, but truthfully, I had a great experience. pm me if you have any questions :)

  • I delivered there and had a great experience.  Ditto pp re: the tour.  It was helpful.  The nurses were great!
  • I delivered at UH and thought the experience was fine (although I have nothing else to compare it to).  The tour was helpful - we scheduled another one for this baby since its been so long and we can't remember much.  I do remember the free valet parking was nice once you go in for delivery.  My husband constantly talks about remembering the cafeteria cheeseburgers and how good it was and how he can't wait to have another one!

  • I was really impressed with the nursing staff in L&D and PP-I was in L&D for 6 shift changes and PP for 3 nights. Parking was expensive for visitors. Take the tour. Order all your safety stuff from them. They will check your car seat installation in the garage. Our room in PP was TINY and food service was slow, but everything else was great.
