Mixed emotions

DH has accepted a job offer in Pennsylvania so it looks like we are moving in the next month or so. He will work a 30day notice and start in PA March 1. I am excited and nervous, happy and sad... It was a mutual decision to move and it is what is best for his career and our family right now. I am excited that his new job is in a bigger city than where we are so there will be things for the kids and I to do. However, I am sad about leaving our friends and nervous about making new ones.  DS does not do well with change either and it took him a few months to adjust when we moved 2 years ago so that concerns me as well. We are also moving even farther from our families which will be hard too as my kids are VERY close to my parents. A 9-10 hour drive is not as easy to do for a few days like a 4.5hour drive was.  I am also not so sure about moving north...I am not a fan of the cold but I guess I will adjust. Stick out tongue

We also have to sell a house in KY so that is a concern in this economy as well. Any tips for helping sell a house would be appreciated also.

Re: Mixed emotions

  • Congrats on his new job!! Moving is hard but at least you can still drive 9 hours rather than being forced to fly. That's what I hate about how far we live from family. Who knows you might love it or you can always move back...maybe even closer to family at some point.

Tips for selling? Price right to sell in this market (which probably means lower than you want) and de-clutter your house (which could be difficult with kiddos) Good luck!

I'd love to buy your house in Kentucky ;)  I've always thought it would be the perfect "not too hot, not too cold" part of the country to live in.  ALL of our family is here in WI, though, so we stay!

  • I have no tips at all to offer about moving, etc., but welcome to the North!  I don't know where you'll be in PA, but if you're by Philly, it's a wonderful place to be (and a lot of people here are from the area too!).

    Good luck!!!

  • March 1st the weather will be warmer (God willing)-

Don't worry- there is so much fun stuff up here- your little guy will have a BLAST. Being far from family is definitely hard though-.

A move in general (even if you are uber excited for it) is stressful.

Hang in there- there is definitely going to be a lot of emotions- naturally!

  • What part of KY?? My dh and I are also looking around for new job opportunities and hoping to find something soon. (dh just finished his Masters degree in mechanical engineering and KY just doesn't have much to offer him as far his specializations go). So i kinda know what you are feeling. Change is scary, but I'm sure you and your DH will adjust.  Best of luck to you!

  • No advice, just some reassurance that everything will be fine :)

Would love to meet you and your LOs!!

  • I totally feel for you, this time last year I was dealing with the very real possibility that we would need to leave all our family and friends in PA to move to TN.  I can't imagine how I would be dealing if we had moved.

I love PA, but I have lived here my whole life.  I think you already have a pretty good attitude about it!  Where in PA are you going?  As someone already mentioned, there are several of us in the Philly area so we can give you lots of recs

    Hang in there!

  • Gosh, I'm sorry you are moving so far from your family.  Its tough.  We are only 3 hours from my parents, but it feels like further, ya know?  Anyway, one thing we did with our last house when we moved was declutter (like pp said) and also staged all the rooms.  You HAVE to think like a buyer.  We brought in people that didn't have children (or pets) and asked them to critique our home.  It was just like one of those shows on HGTV.  We were able to change several things so our home would appeal to everyone.  It sold within 3 weeks (and the market wasn't doing all that well).

Good luck to you and your family!  :)

Would love to meet you and your LOs also as soon as we get settled.

Eagles-  We are moving to the Lehigh Valley area so we will be somewhat close to Philly. I wish we were moving to TN though. That is where we both grew up and all of our family is still there.

Stacy- I hope it is warmer in March. I am just ready for spring and summer whether we are in PA or KY.

  • Don't worry March is nice in this area- however I personally think May is the BEST.

The Philly local board is a little dead on the bump- no idea why because there are so many ladies in this area.

  • It mus be hard to relocate - but the Lehigh Valley is a great area.  My old company has an office in Bethlehem and it's nice there.  I have a good friend who lives there and there is a lot of things to do.  People are very nice there and it gets a little less snow than other areas in PA.
