Would you cut his hair? (PIP)

I'm not really asking for help with a decision...just curious what the rest of you would do if this were your child.  It's hard for me to be objective, but I've gotten a couple of comments about it.

As many of you know, Cal was pretty much bald for a very long time...he started growing hair very, very slowly over the last year and then in the last few months the hair growth has really picked up and he has this mullet thing going on.  I am not really a fan of long hair on boys (although, I don't have a problem with it), but I am just not ready to cut it just yet b/c it's still so new!  I just want to cherish the fact that he has hair, even if it IS long, scraggly, and so fine that it gets all staticky!  I know the second we cut it he's going to seem like such a big boy!

This picture doesn't really do it justice...looks worse in person.

Re: Would you cut his hair? (PIP)

  • Personally, I probably would, but would hem and haw about it for a couple weeks. I am a stickler for "neat" looking hair though, Toodle has the type of hair that many moms let their boys grow really long but I just can't deal with it so he gets haircuts every couple months to keep it tamer. DH fights me on every haircut because he fears change and doesn't like the fresh from the haircut place look because he thinks Toodle looks too grown up.

  • Honestly, if it was my son I would just to make sure he didn't have a mullet.  I'm not a fan of long baby boy hair but thats just my opinion.

    ps he is PRECIOUS!

  • That looks similar to how D's hair is. I decided to hold off until the summer for his first cut.
A lot of years and a million tears finally led me to you.

  • Hmmmm.  I would probably snip it in the back.  He's cute no matter what though!

  • P.S. - I woudln't do an allover cut, though, would just trim the back up.

  • My son's is sorta like this where it's coming over his ears and looks almost too long in the back but the front looks okay.  I'm considering taking him to get it trimmed up a bit so it's more even all over.  I would do it myself but he's got one wicked cowlick that I would totally eff up.

  • I'd snip up the back a bit, just to give it some shape.  You don't have to go with a buzz cut or anything :)

Funny - so does Cal (which he got from me!)!

  • I would soooo be on the fence abou it.  As a Mom of another mostly bald baby, I know that would be super hard.

Like Schmoodle said, I'd probably do it, but it would take me a few weeks to work up the nerve.

  • He is such a cutie!  I would probably just snip the back.  We had to do this with Ava right after her 1st birthday.  I hated doing it, but the mullet was out of control.  Once we got it trimmed, it started to grow in really nicely.

  • Yep, I would cut it. Anna is still pretty bald, but she has a few spots where the fluff is getting longer then the rest, and I already want to trim. I cannot wait for her to have hair, but just think babies/toddlers are so much cuter when it is trimmed up.

  • Yes, I would probably cut it.  We are finally almost out of the mullet phase with Katie but now we hit another horrible hair phase.  I  am trying to grow out her bangs and now her hair looks like Justin Beiber! Luckily it is finally getting long enough so we are alomst out of the "Beiber" stage.  Best part though is if you ask her who her hairs looks like she says "Beiber"....not that she has any idea who that is : )

  • We felt the same way about Reed's hair when he was younger.  It was growing in pretty patchy and it just wasn't cute anymore.  Some people told us to keep it because he had curls in the back, but we ended up cutting it, and he looked awesome!
  • I would cut it.  Not too much (or at all) on the front and sides.  But definitely in the back.  Trim it up.  :)  But Jacob has CRAZY hair.  He needs a hair cut like every 6 weeks or so!

  • I'd probably go ahead and have it cut.  I had a hard time with the first haircut for Dylan too and now have been pushing off getting his hair cut again.  But, I like boy's hair to be short and clean cut so he'll be getting his hair cut again this weekend.
After 2 years and 6 IUIs, we did it with IVF w/ ICSI!

  • I would trim the back. Charlie gets a haircut every 4 weeks on the dot. I don't think you would regret it. Man he's cute!!

  • Miles had the same hair, but much younger (obviously).  I got it cut at 10/11 months because it was looking so mullet-y.  But Cal is still damn cute no matter what.  Seriously that pic with the guitar...that liquid you just stepped in is my heart melted all over the floor. Wink

Jonah's is so bad that he almost has two complete swirls in the back that go in opposite directions. Tongue Tied So he ends up getting this huge piece of hair that sticks straight up in the back.  I think he got it from me because my husband doesn't have anything like this.

  • I would give the back a little trim. :-)
  • DS was growing a baby mullet but I didnt want to cut it all off.  We were able to get it trimmed up and get rid of the mullet without cutting it short.  I like it so much better now.  So yes, I would probably get the back trimmed up.

  • I would cut it.  The only long baby/toddler/young boy hair I like is curly or thick/wavy.  Jack does not have that - his hair gets scraggly looking if it gets too long - so we keep it pretty short.
    Wheee!

  • Ha, I'm debating the same thing and Cal's hair looks exactly like Elizabeth's right now. She's definitely rocking the mullet, but I'm so excited that she finally has hair, I'm reluctant to cut it. But by the end of the day, the longer pieces are looking so scraggly that it looks like I haven't washed her hair in weeks when she actually gets a bath every night. If you decide to do it, be sure to post "after" photos. :)
After 20 months, 3 Clomid cycles and 4 IUI cycles, IVF #1 with ICSI = BFP!
