Somebody take my shovel away!

I have been working on taxes for almost 2 weeks.  I figured I would get a good jump on them as this is my first year filing everything for our business.  Note: We have an accountant who does our taxes, I'm doing the W-2s/1099s that go to our employees, filing the reports and returns each quarter, and now doing the year-end reports.

I want to pull my hair out right now.  I'm in limbo with filing 2 forms because they are NOT what I was told they would be.  I have an email into our accountant's assistant and she still hasn't gotten back to me (from yesterday afternoon).  I have called her previously and I always get her voicemail and for some reason she responds faster via email.  Plus, it's tax time so I'm sure they are busy the way it is so I feel like such a nuisance having all the questions that I do.

If that's not stressful enough, I just realized I have been taking federal and state taxes out of an employee's check with the wrong filing status.  He's married, I have been doing single (habit, all the other guys are single).  I just noticed it an hour ago and all of those reports have been filed with the government already.  I seriously want to throw up as it's such a stupid mistake and I know better Sad

And to top it off, DD#2 has decided that NOW is the time that pull-ups give ouchies and she wants underwear on all the time.  I swear, it's like having a brand new untrained puppy.  Thank goodness we ditched the living room carpet last month!

I'm just wondering how much further I can myself a hole today....

  • Ow, wow.  That does not sound like a good day! :(  My mom also does the tax forms for my dad's small business, sounds like much smaller than yours, and she still dreads it every year.  But it'll be over by next week, right?

Thankfully, I am now DONE.  I swear, I'm ready to party, lol.  She actually called me back about an hour ago, clarified a few things for me (it's amazing how 1 question put everything at a standstill) and walked me through a form that utterly confused me (and I totally understand it now).  It's not that it's really hard, I think it was just that this was the very first time for me doing this stuff.  And despite the instruction sheets they give with those forms, some stuff wasn't answered. I think next year will go a lot smoother as I'll know what to expect (and hopefully I won't mess up a payroll again!  I was super, super careful today, lol).  Being able to do things online so I could backspace through an error vs. messing up carbon copies was a HUGE help as well:)
