TTC After a Loss

If you have hypothyroidism, a question....

I'm concerned I might have hypothyroidism based on low temps and other symptoms, did you just go to your doctor and asked to get tested?  I don't know if its worth going to the doctor or what they would even do about it if I do have it....just looking for any advice or experiences people would be willing to share.  Thanks!

Re: If you have hypothyroidism, a question....

  • Hi Aimee -- I do not have hypothyroidism, but a couple years ago I had a run of symptoms consistent with hypothyroidism so I went to the Dr and explained what was happening...and as part of a work-up they checked blood levels of thyroid hormones.  She also checked some other things that could have contributed to the symptoms I had (low Iron, etc.).

If you have hypothyroidism, you'd likely be prescribed Synthroid or another daily thyroid hormone replacement/supplement to get your levels up to a normal level.

    Hope that helps!

This exactly.  They will most likely do a simple blood work up to check the hormone levels.  I have Hasimoto's, which means my body produces antibodies that slowly attack my thyroid. I get my blood tested every few months to make sure my hormones are still okay.  I take a synthetic hormone every day.  It's super easy, painless, and relatively cheap to treat.  I highely recommend getting tested!  PM if you have any specific questions.

I have Hypothyroidism, your Dr. just has to order B/W to test your TSH levels. I would just ask them to run them, it also tends to run in families, so if your mom or sister have it chance are you might too. If left untreated it can contribute to misscariges.

I take synthriod once a day and get my leves checked every 6-12 months

This exactly.  I didn't find out because of low temps though, I had many other symptoms (unusual fatigue, hair loss, coarse hair, irregular periods, and my mom is hypothyroid).  Your doc shouldn't have a problem with running that lab.

  • Thank you everyone for your responses!  I'll call and try and schedule something for next week, I just would like to know for sure and take care of the problem (if I do end up having one!).  The low temps were just the starting off point to start researching and I seem to have ALOT of the symptoms.  Thanks again and I'll PM people if I think of anything else :)
  • I was feeling really run down a lot of the time and mentioned it casually to my doc. She set me up with regular blood tests just to monitor it. I am currently "borderline" so we'll see! I have wondered if it impacted my m/c. GL!

  • My dr suspected it was a problem when I had my 2nd m/c in June 2010 (had one in June 2008 as well).  My symptoms were consistent with it and the dr suspected that it could be causing/contributing to my m/c's.

Was tested and came back as Hashimoto's Thyroiditis - meaning I have an autoimmune disease that attacks my thryoid and causes me to be hypothyroid.  It affects my hormone levels.  I have been on meds ever since Sept 2010.

Page me if you have any other questions.

same here, except they test me every three months. It also contributes to other fun stuff like anxiety, depression, feeling really "spacey" or in a "fog", and digestion issues. When I first got diagnosed my only symptom was that I would eat and get full and just stay full. It was awful, it just felt so heavy on my stomach. I'm much better now though. Oh I've also read that women with hypothyroid tend to produce a lot of CM. I dont think this was a symptom as much as a common thread. Not sure if this is true for all but it was definitely true for me pre-m/c. Feel free to pm me with any questions!
  • If you are diagnosed with hypothyroidism and taking medication are there issues getting pregnant or miscarriages or are they completely unrelated?
